There are so many red herrings, it's hard to keep track!
And....this section ends on a real cliffhanger. Possibly another locked room mystery. :D
I love the fact that they actually come out and say this is a locked room mystery LOLThere are so many fun elements. There's even a goat! I saw goats at the mansion when I went walking in the summer. They really do keep the vegetation at bay!

There is certainly no end to the twists and turns in the plot, and I am loving that. Usually, the middle of our books drag a bit but this one keeps us going all the way.
I really have no idea who the culprit is at this point. I'll start on the next section tonight.
I'm going to post the final section tomorrow! Sorry, I got caught up in Twelve!

So, earldom and parliament position seem too strong and obvious motives so I'll look elsewhere for the perp.

Anyhow, Fiddles seems to have written Rosalind a nasty note which Anty needs to intercept before it reaches her because he's smitten with her and regrets his hasty actions.
Anty heads to the village of Fray to investigate there and he runs into a couple of people. The first is List Porter, the landlord of the Hare's Foot Inn. Porter informs Anty that due to the deal Sebastian was going to make with the land developers the river will probably be dredged, buried, or diverted and he will no longer have access to the water that makes his Hare's Foot Best Bitter what it is. He also informs Anty on some very interesting facts. First, he thinks the codicil is blank. Second, that the title of the earldom is actually in abeyance because during the War of the Roses the earl was petitioned to join Henry on the field of battle but he pretended he wasn't home, lol, and was in fields when called upon to do his duty (disguised as a farmer) and led others to believe he and his army had already ridden to join Henry's army. Then, we find out the Halliwell Canterfell (Fiddle's father) is actually staying at the inn - another suspect!
On his way back to the hall Anty comes across Mallett, the gardener, who is looking for a missing goat. This missing goat leads Anty to solve the first mystery (partially) of Sebastian's murder - he was driven to his death by a swarm of hoverflies planted in the room!!! The mail arrives, and is distributed by Lydde (BIG misunderstanding between Anty and Lydde) and Anty needs to recover the letter from Rosalind's room without her reading it first. He's able to pull this off, whew!
I'll add more later but I need to get ready for work. Will be back later today with more notes! :-)
