I was genuinely having a blast while reading the first half of the book (I swore not to be nitpicky while reading) the writing style is great although flawed because rf k is an unreliable narrator, I still find it great and I was eating it up.
But like before getting into reading it, I had so many expectations and I already imagined the setting before actually reading the story because it's my culture !! It's china, something won't go wrong with this...right? WRONG
I was excited to read the war scenes because I thought it's gonna be purely fictional that is based on real life events just different outcomes but what do we know? Rfk just... changed the names of the country, the names of the districts and places in China, the terms, all of it. Imagine using your fellow people's pain as a foundation to your fantasy story. Just to drive it forward?

But yeah same I liked the writing. The book's pacing was weird, I found it super slow at times. I liked Rin's grey morality and loved Jiang but all the other characters weren't much fleshed out. I feel like I've read a different book than everyone else. I had such high expectations and I'm disappointed.

Yeah the pacing got its highs and lows, honestly, I just pushed through because of Jiang Ziya JSHAKDHSKBDSKDB I LOVE HIM
