Happy Friday all!Sarita, I love camping! I have to say my idea of camping isn't too rough though. My tent camping days are probably over. The past several camping trips have been an RV, which isn't exactly roughing it, but the best of both worlds...comfortable yet nature right at your door step. Hope you all have a great time! You will make some great memories camping.
I have high hopes for the Doors to the Past Series as well. I'm familiar with the setting of Pittman's novel and really enjoyed that aspect. The main character doesn't believe in ghosts so that made me more comfortable reading it.
Davina, I have high hopes for non-fiction, but there are so many fiction novels calling my name.
Updates are usually Mondays and Thursdays right?
Y'all, we are tied with Team Three for the most ships sunk on the first board (three ships each). Let's keep up the great reading!I realized when I checked my start date on the Pittman book that I can't use it. I started it waaay before the game began. I knew I had another one or two to finish up, but I've been jumping around a bit and forgot which ones they were. xD So I got that nonfiction book (Fight Your Fears) started super early this morning. It's short, so it should be a quick read. I've also got a few audiobooks I'm reading this weekend.
So excited that we're getting so many books read so quickly! We've already finished a collective 36 books. Can you believe it?!
Andrea, nice catch on the missing space! And it was a hit - way to go Tricia!I was waiting to add a book to see if I sunk a ship without the next space. Just added a book. I'm currently reading two and hope to finish them this evening. I was on vacation today, but sadly didn't have much reading time.
wow! 36 is a lot of books read in such a short amount of time. Nice job all!
Woot woot! Tricia, you found a new ship for us! Great job, friend.Staci, that was so smart! You had sunk the ship, so now we get to explore elsewhere. Fun!
I'm so proud of us! We're so cruising right now. Let's keep it up!
We've got snow right now. If work (tutoring) gets cancelled any days this week, I'll be using the time for extra reading. I will be editing in the mornings, but the afternoons/evenings are my own. I've got a few shorter books (just over 200 pages) that I'm trying to get through, but I'm also working on Sarah Sundin's newest book this week. I'm so excited about it, and the cover is one of my favorites of the year thus far.
In person, the stars are more pronounced and the handwritten letter in the background is a bit easier to see than in the online pictures. It's such a complex and beautiful cover.
I read two books of Sarah Sundin from the series Sunrise at Normandy and I really liked them. I bought her last book but I have not read it yet. I agree the cover is beautiful
Oh my goodness! The Sunrise at Normandy series is my absolutely favorite of Mrs. Sundin's books. So deep and rich and wonderful! I'm so glad you enjoyed them too, Tricia.
A little bit, yes. :)My wifi's going in and out right now. We got a dumping of snow as well as a bit of ice the last couple of days, shockingly, and it's messing with cable and internet lines. (We also have no water, because the pipes froze last night, apparently. We do have bottled water to drink, though.) So if I disappear the next few days, it's because I lost access to the internet. I'll still be reading.
I hope all is well with Megan!I'm really looking forward to the Sarah Sundin novel too. There were SOOOO many fabulous releases in February. It's a bit overwhelming.
Prayers for you and your family Andrea. I think we are both in the DFW area. Crazy cold temperatures and lots of snow. Stay warm!
I know what you mean about February releases! I’m hoping Mar and April will not be so good so that I will have time to catch up and breath!
I didn't realize you were also in the DFW area, Staci! Goodness. We've been this close together the whole time?! That's so funny. Have y'all lost power or water or anything? Stay warm and safe! And happy reading through it all.
Andrea, we are close! I moved to DFW at the end of May 2019 so haven't been here long. We haven't lost power thankfully. We do have the water line to our refrigerator and an exterior faucet that are frozen. We've been keeping every faucet in the house dripping. Stay safe and warm!Sarita, I'd love to catch my breathe too! I'm definitely not going to finish everything I'd like to read that releases this month in the next two weeks.
Welcome to the area! I hope you're enjoying it, minus the Wuhan Virus restrictions. It's a beautiful area with lots of things to do in a normal year.I'm with y'all: Soooooo many great books coming out these days.
Quick game question - do you guys think as we get more to the end of a board (ie almost all ships sunk) those reading faster could help target ships some of the other team members found?
We also have to find the two-spot, so we do need to keep hunting around. I won’t likely be able to post books until the wifi stays on longer (snow storm is making it wonky). I’ll see where we stand when I’m able to post.

I see Megan signed up for 2-5 books a month. So could be that she is just busy reading and will come and post once she has books to post :-)
Hi ladies! I should finish two books tonight and will try E6 and E9. Then I'll go back to row 8. That's my strategy for now.Happy reading all!
Finally finished a book this week! I've been having to focus mostly on editing this week, in case the wintry storm took out our power, so I wouldn't be dramatically behind on the project once it was returned next week. Thankfully, the power has not gone out at all, and the storm seems to be over (at least the precipitation portion of it; the temps are still below freezing until Saturday). So I may now go back to regular editing hours, which will free up a couple of hours in the evenings for reading for the game.Staci, how are y'all holding up? Have y'all lost power or any other water lines through this? Our water froze overnight Sunday/Monday, and we're under a boil order even once it comes back on, until further notice, because a local water treatment plant got caught in rolling blackouts, which caused their pipes to freeze up. So that's an extra week or more of not having usable water, really. I do plan on boiling some for washing dishes, but I won't trust water for drinking, washing clothes, or showering until the boil order's removed. Thankfully, we have plenty of bottled water right now.
Megan and Tricia, I'm not sure where y'all are located. Are y'all being affected by the winter storms sweeping through the United States right now?
Sarita, how's the weather there? Are you roasting too much? I think y'all are in summer, right? (Sorry if I already asked that. My brain's been in intense editing mode all week, and it's tough coming out of that zone sometimes.)
Hi Andrea! Glad you haven't lost electricity. We've been fortunate in that too. It's heartbreaking what some families have gone through especially those with extended numbers of hours without electricity.Keeping the water flowing has been a commitment and challenge. Please pray for the hot and cold to keep flowing and no frozen pipes.
Thankfully, we will be above freezing Saturday and Monday should be a day with 24 hours above freezing. It's been crazy. I'm not a fan of the 100 degree days in summer, but not loving this either. I'm definitely a spring and fall girl!
Hope all is well for Megan, Tricia & Sarita!
I'll definitely be praying for your water to continue flowing well, Staci. I know what you mean about the seasons. The heat in the summer is awful here, but one does sort of get used to it eventually, mostly. I've lived in Texas my whole life and can tolerate the heat most summers. I don't like it, but I'm used to its coming around time and again.I prefer winter, though I do appreciate modern conveniences and don't like when they're affected by the elements. The beauty of snow has always been my favorite part of the wintry season, though we don't often get a lot of it, if any, in a given year.
I'm currently living in Montreal Canada. I will pray for you all. I hope the situation will get better very soon in the U.S.. May God bless you and protect you.
Thank you, Tricia!Update: My parents' pipes and mine burst today when the water thawed. Yippee. So we've got a busy weekend ahead of us to fix that and clean the mess the water made in my house. I'm 2/3 done with that already, thanks to my family's helping out. I've got peace through it, been praying through it. God is still good, and I thank Him for His presence and aid through this whole ordeal tonight.
Thanks, y’all! God is good and helped us get the water off quickly-ish and get the puddles mopped up. I have a rug that needs to dry out before I can put my belongings back where they belong, but God has given me peace and answered prayers through it all.
We only need one or two more books this round! The A spots right above and below the hit we scored on the left-hand side of the board. Who wants em?
Awesome! We just need A5 next, but no more on this board after that. For our next board, how do we want to approach it? Do we want to continue the checkerboard pattern? We can assign columns, if you like, and then do odds or evens to make the checkerboard work.
Example:
Staci could take columns A and B and do odds on A and evens on B, while Tricia could do odds on C and evens on D, etc.
Then when we find ships, we could work on sinking them before getting back to the pattern.
What do y’all think?
We could though some people read faster than others. What about having target spots (based on your board approach) and then when people finish they grab one?
Almost like we did at the end?
Or almost like your idea but when you and Staci is done with yours you help the rest of us who read a bit slower?
I'm good with whatever approach. If I finish a book before others, I'll request A5 and then hold any others.Happy weekend all!
I like that, Sarita. I think I’ll start on the right-hand side of the board, going bottom-up this time. Hopefully we’ll get some early hits again.
It took us fifty books to sink all the ships on board #1. Think we can do it in only forty-five this time? 😉
Dealing with broken water pipes has slowed down my reading this weekend. This week is the last for my edit job, but I ought to be back to a faster reading pace very soon.
