Why children should read this book "Spinner"

I taught elementary school for twenty-one years because I wanted to help children learn and have fun learning. Now I hope children will learn as this story is read to them or as they read it themselves. They will learn about a baby horse from its first day of life. They will learn about feelings, reasoning, being kind to others, and working hard. Life can be hard to understand, so I want to help children see that they can figure things out on their own. I want them to learn that life isn’t always fun and easy. Sometimes there is sadness in life but we can make the best of any situation.

This book engages the senses as it is read. Sight is used as the beautiful, colorful illustrations are observed. Hearing is used as the story is being read and new words are heard. The sense of smell is awakened as the smell of grass and wood shavings are mentioned. The sense of touch is used as the book is being held by a child that feels he or she is holding a treasure.

I believe children learn easier when they are having fun. I hope children will enjoy hearing and repeating Spinner’s thought and words as they gain understanding.
