We get the killer’s point of view throughout, mostly the memories of a child. Kim never considered the person to be other than a male. Did you ever believe the killer could be female? What about those memories might have convinced you of his/her gender?

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) Funny enough early on, something twigged with me that the voice of the flashbacks was a boy and his disturbed mother was treating him as a girl. I've actually heard of this sort of thing before. The scene at the school in the bathroom confirmed my suspicion.

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments Exactly, Lisa. I'm not sure what I read early in the book, but I got the same feeling that this was a young boy whose mother was dressing and treating him as a girl.

You two are good. It took me awhile to figure out his mother was mixing the genders. I settled in on the killer being female but later something caused me to see that aspect.

Brenda ~The Sisters~Book Witch I thought it was a girl and her mother and the killer was a man. I did not see that coming. That is a little surprising for me because I like when gender roles are defied and how brilliant was it that the killers ended up being both male and female. This one went further than that by exploring a crime with child forced to grow up not their gender. I had no idea anything that this could be true. At first I was worried this was going to be a chosen identity theme turned killer.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3485 comments I mentioned this in the previous question. I thought the killer was a woman. It felt female to me with dragging the bodies to the dump spot.

I didn't catch that the bathroom scene indicated a man. I thought that she had strange scars on her body from her mother's mistreatment. Then in typical bad girl fashion, the "cool" girl got her gang together to embarrass her about the scars.

Good catch Lisa and Robin.
