I just started actually writing my wip.
This whole time ( last 2 months) have been me planning/researching and outlining but I took the plunge and started!! I know its not a big thing but I'm kind of proud :)

Katie wrote: "That’s awesome!!! Dont forget this first draft is just making it exist! Don’t be too hard on yourself :)
You sound pretty prepared though haha!"

Thanks, Katie! And I get that, but it feels terrible writing bad stuff (aka first draft) but you got to start somewhere

kelsie (taylor's version) I'm not writing anything at the moment, but I can usually come up with an idea quite quickly. what I struggle on though, is being able to flesh it out and follow it through enough to actually create a book. any tips?? :3

i usually go to a friend or something and give the idea and ask for plot ideas and we brainstorm together.

Jace (jace_is_reading) Aliyah that's great!

You got this!
Just remember: "prefect is just a word, and sometimes the imperfect is more real and enjoyable." ~Aja Marie

Start with the small things, like who is this about? where do they live/where does this take place? Questions like those will give you the building blocks to start and then once you have them you {if you want to} can start planning the order to which things take place.

Hope that helps!

message 64: by Jace (new)

Jace (jace_is_reading) I ploted the chapter I'm working on, but left it so vague that I'm frustrated at myself right now.
WHY DID I DO THIS TO MYSELF??

Random quote I wrote that makes me happy and lowkey encompasses 50% of my story's themes in a few sentences.

"Because you're a woman, they expect you to be submissive and emotional and weak. They expect you to fall over anyone who shows a bit of interest. So you have to be defiant and cold and strong at every moment. You have to renounce love and all the comes with it. But you can love without being weak. You can be strong without being ruthless. You can be clever without being cutting."

message 66: by Jace (new)

Jace (jace_is_reading) Alex, that's that best!!!

message 67: by Jace (new)

Jace (jace_is_reading) This is something else that I wrote and I think it's the best thing ever.

“Someone once told me ‘some of the smartest people can be the most ignorant, because they refuse to believe they can ever be wrong.’” Her emerald stare bores into me, “you just proved them right.”

Ooh that's awesome! Reminds me vaguely of one of my crew. Love it!

message 70: by Jace (new)

Jace (jace_is_reading) Anyone want to know something I just realized??

message 71: by Jace (new)

Jace (jace_is_reading) Well first that you can’t have a nightmare without first having a dream. Because all nightmares are induced by fear. If you have a dream then you’re afraid of failing that dream. Meaning that dream turns into a nightmare.
And second, I have way too many quotes that I love from my own book...

Jace (jace_is_reading) Thanks!

Yayyy!!!

 kelsie (taylor's version) sorry....what's a wip?

message 75: by Arhazo (new)

Arhazo (arhazobooks) | 32 comments I just about finished rewriting the scene by scene outline of my book again, because editing it randomly was going nowhere. Now I have a better Idea of the story but I'm still adding, and deleting scenes, and expanding some.

Hopefully when I feel happy enough with it I can take each scene and expand it!

Work in progress!

kelsie (taylor's version) ohh thank you!!

kelsie (taylor's version) you should try to schedule even half an hour every day so you'll make progress quite quickly

kelsie (taylor's version) that would be such a good idea- your poems mixed in with your stories would be incredible

message 80: by Arhazo (new)

Arhazo (arhazobooks) | 32 comments Yea it might help to build a routine, or join one of those writing groups events where they write together once a week. Or the very least take like 10 minutes to write daily. Small steps but at least words are getting down!

kelsie (taylor's version) on the other hand, I'm struggling to start. I have a full idea of what I want to write and even the message behind it. I just dont know how to begin.

message 82: by alex (new)

alex (alexthebookish) | 106 comments Mod
Just dive in. Just start putting words down on the paper. They don't have to be good. The point of a first draft is to exist. That's all it has to do.
Exist.

kelsie (taylor's version) you just gave me so much motivation. thank you :3

message 84: by Arhazo (new)

Arhazo (arhazobooks) | 32 comments It might help to know that everything you write initially won’t be perfect. It might not even be something you’d be proud of but it in the end it DOES help you have something because you can edit it later. Just set a timer for ten short minutes and in those minutes write your story out, from any point or scene. Just go with it.

Don’t double guess it or overthink whether it makes sense or not. No one but you is going to see that anyway. If mid writing you decide a flipping unicorn pops out of nowhere, then roll with it. Loool. Don’t worry about pacing, plot holes etc.

To freedom!! 😤

kelsie (taylor's version) thank you so much. I tend to overthink and scrap the whole thing but I will be proud and keep everything I write.

also HOW DID YOU GET THAT EMOJI?!?!!

message 86: by Arhazo (new)

Arhazo (arhazobooks) | 32 comments Loool I’m on my phone’s goodreads app! Also when I was on my computer I used to look up emojis and copy paste them.

message 87: by Jace (new)

Jace (jace_is_reading) Kelsie, just write, nothing is set in stone in the first daft. See where the words take you.

"Almost all good writing begins with terrible first efforts. You need to start somewhere." ~Anne Lamott

"This is how you do it: you sit at the keyboard and you type out one word after another until it's done. It's that easy, and that hard." ~Neil Gaiman

kelsie (taylor's version) thank you so much :D

Jace (jace_is_reading) Kelsie wrote: "thank you so much :D"

No problem! 😊

Also if you're on a computer if you lift click there's an option to use emojis. Yeah, I just figured this out 😆

kelsie (taylor's version) I'm on my phone, and it just says: character not supported :((
