It definitely takes longer to read out loud. We tried reading them as a family, and got through TH, but gave up a few chapters into FOTR. They are really good, though. You just have to get through the wordiness.

I love TH and LOTR, but how many of you have tried to read the Silmarillion (or any of the other books on the History of Middle-Earth?)? The Silmarillion is probably by favorite of all of Tolkien's books.

I NEED THE FIRST HOBBIT EE!! We didn't get it because we were rather disappointed to hear it only had an extra 13 minutes, but now I want it because I don't want to watch the third EE before the first in case it follows some things up. And I can't wait for the third to come out in Extended in November!!!
@Amanda: I dream about EVERYTHING, so it's not that much of an honor so to speak, but both dreams were really fun! :) And I won't kill you. I've never actually "read" LOTR OR TH OR The Silmarillion, I've just listened to them (unabridged of course) on audio a MILLION times, so I don't really know how hard it is.
@Firefly: ME ME ME! I've read the Silmarillion! (Though like said above not "read" just "heard" XD The narrator for the Silimarillion is EPIC. o.o) It's so amazing! I can definitely see it being your favorite. It's kind of a lot of stories, so do you have a favorite among them? Or favorite character? Haven't read any Historys, but my sister has EVERY Middle Earth related book under the sun and she's told me a lot, so I feel like I've read some of them
I got The Children of Húrin by J.R.R. Tolkien recently from the library to keep!!! It's a nice hardback edition. :-D I love my books.
@Stargazer: I can't remember which story I liked the most. I remembered I just enjoyed the part when they all killed each other and some weren't allowed to go back... *grins and tries to look innocent even though that sounds horrible* but I can't remember ALL the stories since it's been a while since I've re-read the book (which I do often). Also, I really liked Feanor. And Morgoth/Melkor. *hangs head* And I liked the part when their was this elf (I'm awful at remembering names, forgive me) who ran off to visit her cousins/family and then got kidnapped by this creepy Dark Elf who basically married her and imprisoned her and forced her to stay in his forest. And then she ran off with her son but he chased after them and the mother died defending her son when the evil husband tried to kill him.
*nods head and smiles*

Oh! Another favorite character is Maehdros. And Beleg Strongbow is my hero because he's awesome. I cried at his death.
Firefly wrote: "I remembered I just enjoyed the part when they all killed each other and some weren't allowed to go back..."This made me laugh so hard. The creepy thing: I totally understand. XD The Dark Elf. o.o He is so creepy. Yes. You described that story so well. I love it to. *grins innocently with you* (Only now I'm afraid we've just scared away all the people who were thinking about reading it. XD ) I love the story of Baren and Luthian (forgive misspellings) because it's just CLASSIC.
Beleg Strongbow!!! He's my hero too! Awesomest EVER. The part when he died was the saddest thing in the history of ever. I mean, the Silimarillion is like the saddest book ever, and that's the saddest part in it so it's pretty bad...

That's awesome! :D Books are awesome. I haven't read that yet... Though part of that story is in the Silmarillion. At our library it's on CD narrated my Christopher Lee, so I really want to get that and listen to it!
I can't believe Christopher Lee died! *sobs* He played so many great characters. Saruman, Count Dooku, to name a few.
Gabriela, I cried so much when I found out he had passed away. His wish was to see the last Hobbit movie in theatres when it came out and he got his last wish basically. I think I cried for an hour or so? *keeps crying forever*
I don't cry easily (I sometimes wish I could cry easier), but if I had to I would. He was such an amazing man. Did you know that he was the only cast in LOTR that had actually met J.R.R. Tolkien?????!!!!!!!
I know! And I guess Tolkien gave him his blessing to play Gandalf (though he ended up playing Saruman).
Yeah, that's so sad... He was one of the last people recently alive who met Tolkien. It's also sad that he only played bad guys. People who play villains seem to be the nicest off-set.

Why do I think that when they were a little younger (or maybe even now) Liam and Kaden would LOVE glitter? XD And hey, dragon scales are a bit like glitter right?
Ugh! NO ONE IS EATING TOOTHLESS OKAY? Even Davira's not THAT evil. ...Okay, never mind. I take that back.
Resterwen: Yeah, she'd totally hire assassins. Yuk.
What have you guys done to me? Now I want black glitter for my birthday just so I can see what it's like...
No eating Toothless! I would HOPE that Davira's not THAT evil... but with that girl, you never know!I totally want black glitter as well!!
Stargazer wrote: "*bangs head on desk* Firefly... What are we going to do with you. ...."Serve me? Kneel before me? Worship my amazingness? Feed me coffee and chocolate every day for as long as you live your teeny mortal lives?
Alyssa wrote: "No eating Toothless! I would HOPE that Davira's not THAT evil... but with that girl, you never know!I totally want black glitter as well!!"
Black glitter is AMAZING! Here, I shall give you some. *hands you a jar of black glitter*
*comes in, covered in glitter* *pauses at the mention of more glitter*I'm still trying to get this stuff *shakes* *glitter cascades to floor* from Camp Nano off.
But more glitter is good. Especially black; I think that's the one color glitter we didn't use. ;D
I didn't get much glitter a Camp NaNo... And it wasn't even black!!*grins after dumping a jar of black glitter on my head*
Alyssa, you will be picking that out for years to come. *laughs at Allyssa than runs far away from her*
*dives into glitter pool**blows up floaty covered in glitter*
*throws Dark Lord Fire of Fly some chocolate*
Do you think we could get Jace to dive off the 20 foot diving board? XD
Stargazer...don't scare the poor boy, he's been through so much...I mean, MAYBE if Kyrin held his hand...*squeals*
Deborah, you're such fun too! You gotta read the books though. They're the best.
Amanda wrote: "Stargazer...don't scare the poor boy, he's been through so much...I mean, MAYBE if Kyrin held his hand...*squeals*"
I snickered. Oh man. That'd be fantastic. But yeah, we shouldn't scare him. If Kyrin held his hand!!! <3
HEY! We can float Jayrin in the black glitter pool!!!!! :O :D
Amanda wrote: "Deborah, you're such fun too! You gotta read the books though. They're the best."I wiiiill! ^_^
*ships the Jayrin ship on the black glitter with you* (Y'know... I wonder if this is the only case of shipping somebody I haven't even READ yet. XD)
Amanda wrote: "THEN THEY'D BE AN ACTUAL FLOATING SHIP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"Lolz!!
*Sits at edge of glitter pool and sticks feet in* My little sister asked to borrow Resistance for a road trip this weekend. It's probably her fourth or fifth time to read it, but then we both got excited because there should be a new book soonish!! :)
Amanda wrote: "THEN THEY'D BE AN ACTUAL FLOATING SHIP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"LOL! We are SOO clever!!
*dives in with everyone else*
Sees everyone having fun. Comes back.
Builds a glitter-proof wall (but not sound proof or light proof) between self and pool.
Builds another pool behind the barrier.
Fills it with autumn leaves.
Jumps in! :)
