I bought and read the book the year it came out in Canada, summer of 1972, I was 16. My family has always had women of strong character who preferred marrying men who valued intelligent, well-read ladies with backbones. My mother read the book - her comment was "what a sad world - the sexes complement each when a good match is made"- but she also stated it made some excellent points about men's weaknesses: both biological and behaviour-related.
The book itself struck me as interesting because it showcased women's behaviour patterns with and without men...a lab manages to birth a man centuries after my sex became extinct. It did not delve in all possible social ramifications but it was interesting. This new book by Ms Sweeney will make for an interesting counter-point. I look forward to reading it.
