Definitely should be able to use the first two. I’m not sure about the last one. Hard telling from the description of our assigned book if the doctor character will actually be in the book or if he’ll just be referenced. If he’s actually in it, we should be able to use that too! Plot elements def can be a connection.
I guess I should probably get started on that book so I can better answer that question and offer up other plot points as possible connections...

When posting books that are finished in the eligible period, please indicate that they are eligible and potential connections to our assigned book. If you don’t see any connections, just let me know and I will try to help you come up with some.
If a book doesn’t fit for the mini challenge, that is still OK! It is not a requirement but rather an opportunity for extra points — so we will do our best to figure it out.

February, Week 2
Cards completed: 73 of 105
Hands completed: 8 of 15
Hi all,
We are halfway through the month!
We are kicking butt on our hands this month! Right now we only have 32 cards left -- with the number of Draw 2 cards we still have left, that comes out to 28 books! We've read 63 books as a team so far, and since today is the halfway mark for the month, I don't think we'll have any trouble with the regular hands. Our pace is great for completing the mini challenge too, though with the rules regarding connections that one will be a little tougher!
Like last week, I've updated this post with exactly how many of each card we still need. Since we still have two weeks left, I'm not concerned about any specific needs. We seem to need more 9s than anything else, but I've placed cards that will fit 9 in other places, so I can always rearrange toward the end of the month if needed.
As a reminder, these are the color cards that have been claimed (finished ones not included) and who is covering them.
3 Red - Gwen
9 Yellow - Franziska
Let me know if you have any questions. Happy reading!

1st name of author begins with G"
Kaley wrote: “I don't know that first name starting with the same letter is a strong enough connection. I'd lean toward same full set of initials or same whole first (or last) name.“
As a follow-up to what I said about this ... another team DID ask about same first or last initial in the captains group. While the mod said it’s technically up to teams to creatively connect books, she thought it wasn’t a very strong connection and didn’t care for it. But she did say that same set of initials (rather than only first or last) would be acceptable. So I’d definitely like to avoid just first or last initial as a connection to be safe.

That said, I think just having 3 initials in general is unique since most books have authors with only 2 initials in their published names. So if we find another 3-initial author I don’t think it’ll have to be another GGM.

That said, I think..."
Ooh..thats a great idea ..so something like this would work A.E. Via..or does it need to be like this Lynn Van Dorn

That..."
Since the first one is stylized as two initials being the "first name," I don't think we could use that. If it was spelled out like Jennifer L. Armentrout , I think we could use three initials as a potential connection. (She's just the only author I could think of as an example -- not suggesting her specifically as she's not in your preferred genre!)
The second one I'm not sure about either. Gabriel Garcia Marquez has two surnames, while usually "van" surnames are just one surname where the "van" serves more as a prefix. We could maybe use something like "has a space in last name" but it'd be a stretch. I'd prefer we use things a little more solid like genres, cover items, plot elements, etc. that are a little more irrefutable as connections. But I'll take what we can get!
Edited to add: Sorry, I know just a few hours ago I had mentioned it was unclear if it was a middle or last name. I did a little more research on the author so I could better help us out and did discover it is two surnames.

Both tagged historicals

Thank you for this! Yes, I had looked at his Wikipedia page and Garcia was his father's surname and Marquez was his mother's -- so this seems right.

We've gotten 9.5 inches (~24cm) of snow where I live within the last 36ish hours. It's been quite a while since I've seen this much snow all at once!
