Yes - couldn't reply because of the app

megan | 268 comments For the Wild Draw 4 I'll be reading The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, which works for several of the greens. If I needed to let anyone know what I was planning.

Perfect -- thank you!

Gwen | 316 comments I'm eagerly waiting for February 1st! I don't know what I should read first... and I almost feel like I shouldn't read anything right now because we may need it for one of our cards. But I can't... just... NOT read, you know?

Janeylou | 1255 comments I cant wait either..

Can we start on the 1st, wherever we are in the world

message 159: by Gwen (new)

Gwen | 316 comments I think there is a solid start date/time... yes, I just checked. There is a link to the official count-down timer on the first page of this thread, message 6, I think. 4 Days plus to go!

Kaley (kaleyamo) | 1571 comments I can’t wait either! I keep thinking that I need to post my final “before we start” reminders but I’m trying to wait till about two days out. It’s getting close though!

There is an official start time. Here it is:
The challenge starts on Monday February 1, 2021 at 9am UTC time.

Main cities, FYI:

Monday 1 February 2021
San Francisco 1am
London 9am
New York 4am
Mumbai 2.30pm
Tokyo 6pm
Sydney 8pm

There’s a link to convert it to your time zone and a link to a countdown to the start that you will be able to reference as well. I’ll post those in a little while when I get back to my computer! I’ll also include them in the “final prechallenge reminders” post on the 30th.

Just the color ones. We have ~100 cards total and only 11 of those are color ones so there’s still plenty of reading to do :)

Kaley (kaleyamo) | 1571 comments Here are the links I was talking about!

Countdown to start time
Time zone converter

You can use the second to figure out what time it starts in your time zone. For example, the challenge starts at 4 a.m. for me!

The countdown is there as backup -- I always check that the countdown truly has hit zero before I start. I also have the countdown link in the Important Links post in the first page of our thread, so when this post gets lost in the shuffle, know you can just return to the first page of our thread for what you need! (This is also true for viewing our team spreadsheet, seeing our team progress — which I usually update around once a week once the challenge starts, the word count verification tool, a link to the rules, etc. Everything you need should be in my posts on the first page of the thread.)

As of this post, we have about 3 days and 19 hours until start time!

The timing is based on UTC, which is London time. Adding a London time clock to your phone can help conversion mix up.

Kimberly~☆♡Love of Books♡☆ (kimberbooklover) | 347 comments My start time is 4am. So when I wake up do I need to check in on here? or just put my books in my uno shelf?

Kaley (kaleyamo) | 1571 comments Kimber wrote: "My start time is 4am. So when I wake up do I need to check in on here? or just put my books in my uno shelf?"

You don't need to necessarily check in here right at the start, but everyone will need to check in once a week. You can add your Uno books to your shelf at any time. I would like everyone to post their books in here once they are finished though so that I know I am OK to start placing them on the spreadsheet. As long as they're on your Uno shelf by the time you post them in here, that's all I care about.

Reminder: Only books started after the countdown hits zero will count for this challenge.

it's on our team spreadsheet, which you can view here.

I also have a post in the beginning of the thread that lists all our cards for the month: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

But don't worry about reading to complete hand 1 first. Just read what you want to read and I'll fill in the hands accordingly as things fit best! :)

Kaley (kaleyamo) | 1571 comments announcement

Hi all!

Anytime I post that "Read Me" image it's a way to let you know that I have an important update or information. I'll use it throughout the challenge to announce mini challenges, any urgent end-of-month needs, etc. So when you see that image, make sure to take the time to read that post when you can!

We are about 43 hours away from challenge start. I can't wait!!

I wanted to go ahead and take this opportunity to update everyone on where we stand for planning for the month and talk about what to expect once the challenge starts!

We have claimed all of our color cards and Wild Draw 4 cards, so planning-wise we are doing great! If for any reason someone who has claimed a card at some point throughout the month no longer thinks they can cover it, just post in this thread to let the team know so we can plan for someone else to cover it.

When you finish a book, please post a completion post to this thread following this format:
Book:
Author:
Date Read:
Cards it fits:
Cover color (if applicable):

Franziska and I will take it from there! Remember that only books started after the challenge starts can be used for UNO. So make sure to check with this countdown if you're not sure. I'll be posting to this thread once the challenge has started as well, but I'll be a few hours late since it starts at at 4 a.m. my time, and I do not wake up that early :-P

Please also remember that per UNO challenge sign-ups, you agreed to check in to this thread at least once a week. I understand real life gets super busy, but a quick comment just to say you're still here & participating is always greatly appreciated!

Let me know if you have any questions!

Kaley (kaleyamo) | 1571 comments Janeylou wrote: "Am i right in thinking page count isn't important in this challenge ..other than meeting the minimum criteria"

Correct. As long as it meets the minimum requirement (100 pages for most books / 25,000 words if it's a children's book, play, etc.) that's all that matters. No extra points for big page counts!

Ironically, I just picked up the 2nd book in the Game of Thrones series from the library yesterday. It's a whopping 1048 pages. Maybe this isn't the best time to dive into it!

How do you like that series? I loved the show but still haven't brought myself to read it yet (mostly because of those page counts!!).

Elizabeth | 47 comments Kaley wrote: "How do you like that series? I loved the show but still haven't brought myself to read it yet (mostly because of those page counts!!)."

I LOVE the series! I'm a huge epic fantasy and sci-fi reader so the page counts don't intimidate me. I previously read the entire Game of Thrones series, but it's been about 10 years and I want to read it again. 🙂

Oddly, I couldn't get into the show. It was too violent and gory for me. And even though the book is quite dark and violent too, I guess I prefer having those details in my imagination rather than seeing them on screen.

Good to know! I've been wanting to read it for a while. I started the first one once but didn't make it far. It's one of my goals to read it again eventually! I know there's a lot more details in the books about things the show never really went into, so it sounds very intriguing to me.

Though I think in part, one of the reasons I haven't read it yet is because I'm too worried the series will never get finished, and I'd hate to put in so many hours then never get answers for things! :-P
