novel and alternative "director's cut" version — questions

Lovecraft's Book, first published in 1985, has one version of the text. Marblehead, a longer version published later has the author's preferred text. obviously, they have two different titles.

does this count as a single book or two?

one librarian (perhaps out of error) has made the two versions into a series. does that make sense?

I believe they should be combined, and not a series as they are the same book.
