Throughout the book, Starr discusses how she's different "versions" of herself whether that is in her neighborhood or at school. Known as "code-switching,"this concept involves a person changing how they speak/act depending on the social situation.
Do you think Starr is able to code-switch well? Do you see any other characters code-switching, too? Are there any instances where someone may not switch and it creates a socially awkward situation? Can you relate to the concept of code-switching?
She did at the beginning of the novel but by the end, she had the two worlds as one. Uncle Carlos, Momma, Seven. Yes if Starr said something while she was in school that wasn't to that side people would look at her weird. No
I believe Starr was able to code-switch well, she did it often. I think Seven code-switched as well sometimes. Yes when Starr is at school and she forgets to switch it can be awkward because her friends have never seen her speak or act in that way. Yes i can relate to the concept.
