georgiabread | 214 comments A global nuclear war has finally ceased. The world is left utterly destroyed. More than half of Earth’s population is dead. Allies have abandoned each other, leaving everyone to their own devices. And the world’s environment…well, you could hardly call it an environment. Thousands of animal species have been wiped out; forests, lakes, deserts, glaciers, grasslands. Gone. Urban developments like towns, cities, whole states. Gone. The survivors are left without a government, without anyone to guide them. Radiation hangs in the putrid air, slowly killing off those who remain.

“ Yᴏᴜ ᴅᴏɴ’ᴛ ᴜɴᴅᴇʀsᴛᴀɴᴅ. Nᴏᴛʜɪɴɢ ᴄᴀɴ sᴀvᴇ ᴜs ɴᴏᴡ. ”

But then the Sanctuary is built. A safe haven for every man, woman and child left in the world…if they can reach it. It is an enormous glass dome, filled with miles of small towns. And in the middle, a city. That’s where the creators live, a new organization bent on saving humanity; they are the new government. They claim that this safe haven will protect survivors far and wide. They will live there until the radiation subsides, until Earth is liveable again.

Those roaming near are drawn to this new saviour. They go through health checks; those ill with physical mutation, cancer or other sicknesses are sent straight the hospital. And those who have miraculously survived without harm are allocated houses. In a month, peaceful order has descended over the Sanctuary.

Then the mutations begin. The first is discovered in a child aged only 6 years old. Carly was recovering in hospital, after being cured of her genetic mutations. Or so she, and the doctors, thought. This young girl was suddenly gifted with telekinesis, the ability to manipulate any object by raising it into the air, moving it around and so forth. The doctors were very worried for Carly. And the organisation? This new government? They were terrified. If these mutations increased, the Sanctuary’s order could quickly spiral into panic and despair.

Children and teenagers alike were constantly discovered with supernatural abilities. Some could control avian creatures, others gifted with x-ray vision or super strength. The government had to take action.

“ Pʟᴇᴀsᴇ. Tʜᴇʏ ᴀʀᴇɴ’ᴛ ᴄᴜʀsᴇs. Tʜᴇʏ’ʀᴇ ɢɪғᴛs. ”

Every young person, aged from 5 years old to 19, was rounded up at the
Sanctuary’s train station. From there, all were transported to an underground facility. They were told that the government was working to save them from their ‘curses’. They were told some would undergo a few painless tests. They were told that soon, all would be released. A few were at first, but only those who were discovered to have no ability at all. This calmed every child and youth a little, but not for long.

Strict-and sometimes abusive-order was implemented on everyone. “SAVAGE” was tattooed onto everyone’s right arm, followed by an identification number. All were called upon by their numbers afterward.

But then both the children and teenagers slowly began disappearing. A rumour soon spread; they were all being stolen away and killed without a second thought. And so, a large number of prisoners managed to plan a secret escape. They stormed the front doors of the facility, and entered the horrific, obliterated world. Some formed small bands, others went solo. But one thing was certain; these mutants won't be able to last long in a slaughtered world.

“ Eɪᴛʜᴇʀ ʀᴜɴ ᴏʀ ᴅɪᴇ. Yᴏᴜʀ ᴄʜᴏɪᴄᴇ, ᴅᴀʀʟɪɴɢ. ”

Then the Hunters were released. Merciless assassins, their main goal is to kill every last mutant. Every last savage. And so, all those ‘savages’ are on the run. All became the Hunted.

I'm sorry I don't mean to be rude or anything, but I am just wondering how the assassins can survive outside if only the mutants can survive outside?

The hunters have been trained for, like, years or something, so they do know some stuff? They just have to rely on their wits and skills, not powers, so it might be a bit harder

georgiabread | 214 comments The mutants can survive cause they've got their powers to help them, and the hunters have their skills
