Read in the last year or two. The women of a kingdom develop power they have to dedicate to a temple or goddess. There's a soldier sleeping with the princess, but she assigns him to protect the heroine because she's important somehow. The heroine's power develops & she connects to some sort of source. It starts to overwhelm her & the soldier tries to help but they're overcome & sleep together. She goes to dedicate her power but can't because it became bound with the soldier's. The princess decides that to avoid scandal the heroine & the soldier have to get married. I remember the two main characters travelling through some portals, and the heroine always gets sick (I think until her power develops). There's also a whole bunch that happens at the temple where they try to fix her. At the end of first book the two main characters go on the run.
