TCampbell | 9 comments Thanks for creating this group, James! At year end, I do a recap of National Park related books I've read that tends to spark a lot of conversation. Was looking for some for 2021 and you have a great list right here!

Yes, saw your email about the book club yesterday. I've been following your work since COVID -- it's been a bright spot for me and my colleagues at the National Park Service.

TCampbell | 9 comments I started reading Gloryland, but can't find the discussion thread for it. I'm about 20% through and it's beautifully written

Thanks so much for asking! Truthfully all the goings on through Black History Month has me a bit behind. We can start a discussion thread today. Specifically I want to explore the idea of using a novel to recount the composite narrative of era...allowing a single character to relate the experience of the life and times of an entire generation. I'll set it up. I look forward to your thoughts.

Take care

James

I think historical fiction is a great way to draw more people in to a place of empathy and understanding of the actual history. Academic history lessons often leave people with a bunch a facts and dates devoid of what it all MEANS. Identifying with a character and traveling with him on his journey is more impactful than reading a wikipedia entry

Amanda | 2 comments Thank you so much for curating this! I was led to the group when searching for people in the outdoor leadership field who inspire me... I have shared the group with the Outdoor Leadership Program I am in at Southern Oregon University and will be sharing with the Environmental Science and Policy Program, too! Hoping some of my fellow students join in and I am looking forward to participating in the discussions! I just need to catch up, lol :)

TCampbell | 9 comments I think the June read is The Unlikely Thru-Hiker: An Appalachian Trail Journey. I just grabbed it on Amazon (my library did not get this book in) and received a $1 credit for a future Kindle purchase. Not sure how long the promotion is running, so wanted to let everyone know.

Lynn Persson, Terra Experience | 1 comments I had a hard time finding too. Ended up by happenstance with two very good (like new) copies. If you are in Madison area glad to sell the extra copy at the same price I bought it. You can contact me at FB - Lynn persson
