Hi, Tanya and I will be commencing a BR of Always a Scoundrel shortly. All welcome to join us. This is book 3 in the series, but neither one of us have read first two books. From reviews, I believe this works perfectly fine as a stand-alone .

I read the prologue and first chapter before committing. I am very intrigued, and yes I feel that there is enough back story to read it out of order.

So I just started, read about 3 chapters. I am enjoying the set up, the writing is so sarcastic and funny at times I love it. Not sure how much more I can read today, work has begun sadly

Chapter two (view spoiler)[ I like that Bram is intrigued with the situation but doesn't really know why. He is acting out of character by having lunch with James and keeps having to remind himself that it was his idea. (hide spoiler)]

Oh, glad it's off to a good start. I'm starting tonight. It'll be a super slow pace for me. Work and kids are also taking up a chunk of my time and by the time I get to the book, I'm ready to crash.

Guilty but I made notes. One of my other groups needed an historical for a team challenge.

Finished first 2 chapters last night. Took me a while to work out who's who, because my concentration was impaired from exhaustion. Bram is coming across as a bit of an immature, hedonistic ass but I'm cool with that for now. The more there is to redeem later. Liking the heroine so far.

Bram is like a teenager acting out at 30 or whatever, can't remember if his age is mentioned

I'm up to Chapter 6. These are my thoughts so far:

Still liking Rosamund. She's too clever and too good for her family but lucky for them, also loyal and responsible. Contrast this with Bram who remains self-indulgent and bratty. His present and past disrespect shown to his brother and the latter's family (view spoiler)[(by inviting unsavoury characters to dine with August, his wife and children) (hide spoiler)] is an example of this. I feel that his offer to aid Rosamund is more for his own gain, to satisfy his fascination for her and less so for her benefit.

I do like August. He appears to be quite intuitive and able to match Bram's wit with ease. (view spoiler)[ I understand Bram and his father have some mutual dislike going on, but why does that have to extend to August? Bram was completely perplexed at the idea of Rosamund's sense of loyalty towards her family. (hide spoiler)]

Frankly, I do agree that her family is really quite undeserving of her sacrifice, except for maybe her sister whom we have yet to see much of. I just want to put James over my knee and smack his bottom raw. What a selfish moron.

I must say, I don't care much for this emerging trope of (view spoiler)[ him teaching her about the male gender and sex (hide spoiler)]. Hope Enoch is not going to dwell on it for too long.

The writing is good as I have come to expect of the author. It's an easy read so far.

Through Chapter four
(view spoiler)[ Rosamund is in such an untenable situation. I not sure whether to admire her loyalty or shake my head at her naivety in thinking she will be able to control the situation.
But having said that I have no idea as to how she could extricate herself.... (hide spoiler)]

Chapter five (view spoiler)[ Our villain is definitely a monster!!
I like the conversations that Bram is having with his valet, along with the interactions with his family it shows his humanity. (hide spoiler)]

Beginning of chapter ten (view spoiler)[ I am enjoying Bram's redemption. It is so very gradual. So much more believable than the last minute epiphany.

But frowning about something and actively attempting to put a halt to it were two different things. Very different when Kingston Gore was involved. And that brought up a different question: If the woman Cosgrove had selected hadn’t been witty and forthright or hadn’t had a compelling sprinkle of freckles across her nose, would he now be attempting to play a hero? I am wondering if this is my first Suzanne Enoch. I definitely haven't read her since November 2014, when I began keeping track on GR. At 50% I will be going back and reading books #1 and #2.

I agree my thoughts are very similar.
