Halfway through book 2 already... so much going on... so many NEW characters, nevermind all the ones introduced in the first book... and it adds so many more layers of complexity and layers to the plot... kinda like Game of Thrones, I guess... nothing looks like it'll be resolving anytime soon :D
The new kinden types are cool, too... (view spoiler)
Some stuff I spoiled, looking at the wiki... probably a good thing that the wiki lacks in information for most characters beyond book 2-3 :D

I read over half on my days off last week, and have been paused since returning to work, so far... I assume you're talking about (view spoiler) ... alot of new characters were introduced... altho some are more likeable than others...
This series is getting complicated... I'm near the end of book 2, and so many factions are cropping up... (view spoiler)
Still enjoying it... but kinda glad I have time to take a breather between each book...

I had a serious moment today when I wondered if I finished book 2 or left it paused... then I remembered the ending...
Dunno about you guys, but I haven't forgotten about this... plan to get to it by the weekend at the latest... got a couple other books to read first...
I've been piling books onto my TBR from the Audible sale... everything on Audible is 50-70% off right now... tons of deals, cheaper than credits... but you basically need to check everything you're interested in to find it, unlike usual limited sales...
Started book 3... almost too late for bonus points, yesterday... mostly started BECAUSE of that...
Didn't make it very far... kinda surprised the book didn't open with some more insights into the Wasp Emperor/Empire, like the 2nd book did... thought that was gonna become a recurring thing...

ME TOO!!!
I read almost half of it today, starting this morning :D
Got a busy couple weeks ahead, if I want to catch up to where we should be...
OR... we can just shift the schedule 2 months, if you want :D
Do book 4 next month... depends if you're on Blood of the Mantis still, like I am, or made it further...

I didn't feel too lost, after the long break... and the new characters/kinden are interesting... except for the shadowy one drinking Tymissa...
The Wasp Empire just sounds unstoppable... I'm having Thanos flashbacks... "I... AM... INEVITABLE!!!"

I'm fine with whatever schedule you want... you're the only other person still making progress...

Just popping in to say I haven't forgotten about this, Olivia... should be getting to it this week... been trying to get to it all month, really...
My last comment got the ball rolling... I actually listened to nearly half of the book at work this morning...
The flow of these books really reminds me of Wheel of Time & the frequent "Convergences of Events" of Malazan...
The way the character all meet up for a short time, only to split off into a dozen directions, while still being able to reliably expect half of them to end up together in whatever final showdown materializes... and the rest accomplishing other goals...
This one has definitely thrown some curveballs (view spoiler)

I finished the book 2 days later and forgot to comment...
I actually spoiled some of the ending of this book forever ago, finding out this series has 3 arcs and a partial wiki... but the ending also packed some surprises...
The Wasp Empire kinda felt like Thanos for much of the book... "inevitable"...
Especially (view spoiler)
Next arc should be interesting... hope you show up, Olivia...

did you read/finish #4, Olivia?... I know I'm behind on starting #5, but I have vague plans to read soon...
I scheduled a ton of BRs this month, on accident, and people keep scheduling more, because there's a fast and loose multi-series read going on in the Mystery Channel (all my fault) :D

I must admit - having read some of his other books - this series has flaws but I do enjoy it nonetheless.
I find Thalric in particular very well written

Yea... his other stuff is better... but this series is definitely readable... don't hate it, by any means...
I think he has a new book/series I want to read that started recently...
This one: Shards of Earth... altho most of his standalones/etc look interesting, too...

I tried reading The Expert System's Brother, but didn't make it very far with the unusual writing style...

It’s interesting that he’s written some of my favourite books (Children of Time & Dogs of War) but can also be totally “miss” for me.

lol... agreed...
I'm open to continuing... maybe we can finish the 2nd arc this year ;)
I think there are 3 arcs... I should have time in a week or 3, if you want to say we'll read book 5 this month...
I kinda paused this waiting for you to be ready, when September/October fell through...

SOMEDAY
okay book 5 end of this month
(I might re-read 3 and 4 to get me back into the swing of things if I find time)
More power to you... no way I'm doing a re-read... I vaguely remember how things ended, in the first arc...
On the cusp of winning the war, the war was paused, because (view spoiler)

I vaguely remember things, but I looked at the beginning of the fifth book and went "huh" - I might make the re-read of at least book 4 my evening / good night read since I wasn't in the most focused headspace when I read it last year... I've been looking at my list and with a lot of books I'm like: I'm not sure I remember reading this which is bad
