Samuel Dias sounds dreamy.....
a pirate turned entrepreneur
a thief at times
knows his jewels
knows the womanly craft of sewing and knots
good with kids
tells great stories
and I swear in my mind he visually looks like Gaston from Beauty and the Beast (Disney Cartoon)
hahaha
I hope we hear from him again

Agreed - dreamy. Loved that he was weak & strong simultaneously. And that he would speak 'truths' when delirious with fever.
Samuel Dias! Oh, he was definitely dreamy. I am hopeful that maybe we will see him again -- this little nugget in the last page of Part One:
"A man who talked as much as he did knew when he'd reached the end of a story, even though there are those who insist that once you save a life, that person is tied to you eternally." Swoon.
But like so many young people, Maria's mind is made up to find John Hathorne and despite all of the signs not to seek him out, she is determined (and she does not seem like someone who will be easily persuaded to change her mind).

Yeah I really like that theme of 'the heart wants what the. heart wants' despite what our better judgement is screaming in the background
finally I am joining ...a most lovely topic: Dreamy Sam. He definitely will be back. I am curious what will come of the Crow?

I loved the crow too! He is almost like her intuition.

I find it very inspiring as I pour through my 2021 seed catalogs....maybe I'll even brush up on my herbology since it looks like Los Angeles is going to be on lockdown for another year...
