Bumble wrote: "not as offended as I am by addie larue seeming to think of herself as a feminist icon *breaks table*"Oh, she's definitely not a feminist icon *does karate chop* She's selfish, foolish, bland, dumb... but in the end, she's just a vessel for the story to move through

The despairing angst...the best part

yes..i just needed that waterfall of depressing drama that day
Trisha wrote: "there is no 'plot', no 'story', it's more of a diary really"Yes, it wasn't meant to have a great plot or engaging characters, it's just supposed to make you feel. And it succeeded.

I own Vicious and I plan on reading it.Yes, I didn't really like it. It wasn't terrible, it just wasn't good.

Hi! I read Vicious and Vengeful. I felt that Vicious could've been standalone but I still enjoyed the second one! It is definitely more sci-fi than fantasy I think but I still loved the concept. Hope you like it :)
To those that are posting about a lack of "plot" in the book, what exactly are you looking for? While the plot itself isn't inherently concrete, like solving a mystery or saving a kingdom, there is obviously a sequence of events within the novel that propel the story to the end. I would love to hear some thoughts, as I have seen so many people mention in various posts that there is a lack of a plotline in the novel.
it’s not that there’s no discernible plot line, it’s that the plot is so dull and predictable that it doesn’t invest you at all. it doesn’t feel like a story or something that immerses me, it feels like words on a page and it’s inherently obvious what the next event will be.

So far I am enjoying the book, I don't find it boring or obvious at all.
I think part of the problem is the changing timeline. in the 2014 timeline, she’s constantly referencing things she did in the past. and then, a few chapters on, that thing she mentioned is actually featured in the past timeline. for example, she keeps talking about the room in new orleans. so that means that in the 1900s timeline, once she comes to new orleans, we know something bad happens, and then piece together what happens through the situation she’s in in the present day, and through the fact that we can guess what happens.
I agree that sometimes the time jumps can be a little jarring, but I don’t mind them. I really like Addies story but now that Henry is introduced I’m less interested LOL. Have any of you read My Name is Memory by Ann Brashares?? Similar story, someone who lives many lives but it’s must more focused and the plot is more concrete. I LOVED IT. She finally wrote the second book and it’s coming out soon, I’m excited because the first book ends on such a cliffhanger!
hold on i’m just testing if I can do spoiler tags on the app because it’s a dumpster fire: (view spoiler)
this is my first BOTM with you guys :)I am on page 110-ish. The book is too slow for my liking and gosh! it's soo repetitive! it gets annoying but I am going to keep reading.
-_-
