since i was the first to translate and publish kroetz in english [FARMYARD AND OTHER PLAYS, Urizen Books NY 1976:] I thought I'd express my surprise at Anthony Vivis doing most of them over, not that my American Black English translations of Farmyard and Michi's Blood would necessarily play well in the U.K. But otherwise, this strikes me as someone [Vivis:] piggy backing. Re Kroetz himself, he then never shared royalties with his translator, and has admitted that his most grievous fault is being stingy. When the first director to be, Carl Weber, for whom I did four translations in 1971 had found 10 K dollars to mount a performance in NY, Kroetz wanted all of it for himself! Alas. My translation of Men's Business , the original brutal and truthful version of Through the Leaves is about to be done in Australia, and their arts council actually payed me, a first!
