Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments The opening is very textured, layered and dark. I'm glad I finally hit a point where my reading mood works with the BR for the story! lol

I'm surprised by how simple and yet complex the story is woven between tales & whatever is actually happening.

Franziska (tintenklexxe) | 148 comments I just read the first two chapters and I agree with you @Soo
it's a really unique kind of storytelling
and I like the cover with the dark blue/purple colours and how the art is "hidden" behind the title and you don't really get the whole picture unless you look closely because it's so dark and interwoven - kinda like the writing style

Franziska (tintenklexxe) | 148 comments this book is like a violent fever dream....

message 9: by Soo (new) - rated it 5 stars

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments Yes! It really is and all over the place. A bunch of key things can happen within a few sentences. Planning to see if I can wrap this one up on my hike today.

Saar The Book owl | 3124 comments I'm so curious after reading the posts! I'll start this evening.

Saar The Book owl | 3124 comments I'm somewhere in chapter 2, but this is something different to read! It's like the book that I was waiting for to give my reading a boost. It's dark, but yet, it's high paced and the Tracker has an interesting way of storytelling.

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments My internet has been wonky for the last few weeks. I try to post when I have net. I want to talk about this book. I finished a few days ago. Listened to it when I went hiking.

Dion Graham was amaaaaaaazing as the narrator! He definitely gave the story more oomph in audio. There's a few songs & poetry in the later end of the book. Total treat to hear in audio.

Writing flow is a bit rough in the way parts are linked together but I adored the use of African lore and how that was a core part of the story.

Good to hear, I was curious about the audio since I loved the ebook version.

Franziska (tintenklexxe) | 148 comments I'm about half way through.
I'm intrigued by this story, but it's really hard for me to understand what's going on (I'm not native in english, so the unusual story telling is kinda hard on me)
I think I'll try the audio book, maybe reading and listening simultaneously helps:)

Saar The Book owl | 3124 comments @Franziska: English isn't also my native language, but the story is intriguing. Continiuing tomorrow, because haven't got the time yet.

Franziska (tintenklexxe) | 148 comments It's just so confusing sometimes and I feel like I miss a lot ... maybe have to reread to fully understand
but the african lore is really interesting

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments The author weaves what is happening in the present time and does several flashbacks to his own past or even to events that have been discussed. There are a couple of summary of what has happened before that are dropped into the story in the later portions.

I like the flow of the stories because we are mostly seeing from Red Wolf/Tracker's viewpoint. When you think about your life and what you do day to day, if you talk about it, you don't choose to talk about every little detail. It's more about the key aspects that you think are important and how they may connect. Sometimes there is no connection except that it all centers around your life.

Most of the violent and sexual stuff are one liners. In an odd way, that makes them stand out as stark entries because it's not drawn out. More of an impact that way but also easy to miss because several things are happening all at once.

Saar The Book owl | 3124 comments Sorry for being so far behind on this one, but I've almost finished the first part.
(view spoiler)

Saar The Book owl | 3124 comments I'm 3 pages away from finishing part 1:
(view spoiler)

Franziska (tintenklexxe) | 148 comments So sorry that I didn't post anything this last weeks, but life happened and I needed to cut all non-essentials to function, including goodreads (and reading). I'm slowly getting back on track, but I don't think I will finish this book in the near future, as I didn't enjoyed it so much and had some problems with understanding, and now is just no time for me for that kind of book
