What have you purchased? - 2021
Hahaha That's exactly my issue, Janice. I'm trying to rationalize it by saying I would pay more to renew my membership and receive less books. I've almost convinced myself. (Now I'm off to go see if I already own the next couple of books in Old Man's War... *facepalm*)
In my current cart: Free Fall (Elvis Cole #4) ($7.34)
Voodoo River (Elvis Cole #5) ($9.00)
Cherringham: A Cosy Crime Series Compilation (books #1-3) ($4.60)
Cherringham: A Cosy Crime Series Compilation (books #4-6) ($4.60)
Sudden Death (Andy Carpenter #4) ($8.99)
Hurricane Force (Miss Fortune Mystery #7) ($5.98)
Fortune Hunter (Miss Fortune Mystery #8) ($5.98)
Later Gator (Miss Fortune Mystery #9) ($5.98)
Hook, Line and Blinker (Miss Fortune Mystery #10) ($5.98)
Swamp Spook (Miss Fortune Mystery #13) ($5.98)
Swamp Santa (Miss Fortune Mystery #16) ($5.98)
A Murderous Relation (Veronica Speedwell #5) ($8.40)
Black Heart (Detective Dan Riley #1) ($4.79)
The Couple on Cedar Close (Detective Dan Riley #1) ($4.90)
Forsaken (Shadow Cove Saga #1) ($7.48)
Lost Souls (Dean Koontz's Frankenstein #4) ($7.35)
The Dead Town (Dean Koontz's Frankenstein #5) ($6.30)
Dark Path (Bodhi King #1) ($5.24)
Wish Me Home ($3.15)
Beneath The Surface ($5.89)
The Violinist of Auschwitz ($7.48)
Ted Bundy: The Horrific True Story behind America's Most Wicked Serial Killer ($3.48)
Jeffrey Dahmer: The Gruesome True Story of a Hungry Cannibalistic Rapist and Necrophiliac Serial Killer ($3.48)
Ten of these are "only from Audible" and none are available through my library. A couple in series were either too expensive (more than a credit) or available either through the Plus catalog or my local library, so I skipped those. I'm n to really sure where to cut back.
I actually had the whole Miss Fortune series in my cart and took a bunch out. I figure I'll get to them eventually, but not right away, so they can wait.
Crap... writing that made me remember the Ghost-in-Law series and now I checked and they are also $5.98 each, so I'm adding a couple of those. This is basically me renewing my membership and spending it all in one day at this point... I think I need an intervention.
Added:
The Helena Diaries: Trouble in Mudbug (Ghost-in-Law #1.5) ($2.05)
Showdown in Mudbug (Ghost-in-Law #3) ($5.98)
Resurrection in Mudbug (Ghost-in-Law #4) ($5.98)
Rose and Helena Save Christmas (Ghost-in-Law #7) ($4.48)
Lol Kristie, that's quite a list!!Go for it! You could also spend the money on alcohol, drugs, junk food, sports memberships or nothing at all. Books beat all of the above ;-)

I like your thinking, Peggy! I keep thinking about things like bills, food, etc... Who needs those! ;) lol
Edit... I did skip a lunch out with friends I was supposed to go to today. That has to be worth at least a couple of those books, right?
I tried to get an intervention from Craig and he said "Go for it! I need some new books!" lol He's as bad as I am!
Kristie wrote: "I tried to get an intervention from Craig and he said "Go for it! I need some new books!" lol He's as bad as I am!"Lol. That is great. This addiction might leave you homeless but not divorced!

lol!
I haven't clicked the purchase button yet. I have some guilt over buying so many, but at the same time it's a really good deal for books I'd buy anyway. I also keep thinking it's silly of me to pay more later just so I don't buy so many now.
I've got 9 in my cart. I keep reading what other people have purchased and I think, "Oh! Check it out." For example someone mentioned the Detective Lavender series. I was relieved to see I already had them all. I thought I was still waiting on the last book.I wonder how many will be on future sales and if it's safe to leave them for now.
I'm currently at $58.21 which is about $75.00 for me. My membership comes up on July 7th too, which is why I'm reluctant to spend too much.
Kristie wrote: "lol, Margo! I share my Audible with Craig, but I'm in charge of purchasing. Fortunately, he likes a lot of the same books I do. So, I'd go with something like, "Audible had a sale and look what I g..."I share mine with Kevin too, but he really will listen to anything I tell him to, lol. I have a pretty good idea of the things he will like. Sometimes I get nature books for him but I think there has only been one series he picked out himself. Other than that he just wants to own favorite series because he likes to re-listen.
With the current Audible sale I was trying to decide how many of the Expanse series books to buy. I went ahead and got the novellas since they were only like $3
My membership doesn't renew until February and I only have four credits left. I think if I had purchased my regular 24 credits instead of 12 or if it was renewing soon I might be more reluctant to splurge. But, the cost of these books and my discount membership together isn't really too much more than my normal membership price and I would normally pick up a few in the sale anyway. Craig and I have some different genres that we like, but his taste overlaps quite a bit with mine as well. When we drive somewhere I choose the book we listen to, but he will also listen on his own. I have him hooked on audios now and he's been listening more than I have lately! Fortunately, he has been listening to the Elvis Cole, Miss Fortune, and Veronica Speedwell series, so he was pretty happy when I told him some of the books.
Kristie wrote: "I tried to get an intervention from Craig and he said "Go for it! I need some new books!" lol He's as bad as I am!"This is the type of relationship we should all aspire towards!
Go for it Kristie :D
I have the 24-book membership and I still end up buying more credits before it renews. So decision made. I purchased 9 books, mostly to top up series I already have.
Wolfhunter River
The Bones Beneath My Skin
Mad Mouse
The Perfect Hope
Betrayal in Death
Seduction in Death
The Human Division
The End of All Things
The Hellfire Conspiracy
I just went back and got The Summer Children and The Vanishing Season from the Audible sale to finish up that series. And A Forest of Stars and Scattered Suns which is another series I am trying to own and those books were less than a credit. But now I think I am done, lol.
I bought the rest of Riyria Chronicles from the 70% Audible sale (it was all around 23$) and two kindle books that were on sale a few days ago All Systems Red and Piranesisaved up a lot fo money :)
I got Whispering Pines Mysteries Box Set: Books 1-3 on Kindle for free.
So, I ended up buying far too many books in the sale, but I am rationalizing it that they were all books that I would have bought eventually. Most are from series that we are reading and none are available through my library. I ended up with 24, but that's really just 12 each, right?
I may have gone back to the Audible sale again today and picked up Cloudstreet
The Great and Secret Show
Swallows and Amazons
which brings my total books that I got from the sale to 16
Plus I used a credit for Troy which I have been waiting and waiting for because I adore the books with Stephen Fry's narration.
I also picked these ones up for free because I realized in going through my wish list that these ones had become "included" - so yay!
Belfast Noir
His Bloody Project: Documents Relating to the Case of Roderick Macrae
Sons
A House Divided and
The Scholar
Janice wrote: "I got Whispering Pines Mysteries Box Set: Books 1-3 on Kindle for free. I really enjoy Shawn McGuire so figured it was a win-win situation. No, it's [author:Seanan..."Middlegame was my first Seanan McGuire and I really liked it. I am going to start the October Daye series by her this month or next.
Peggy wrote: "It is Kristie. And 12 each is just one a month, and you read more than that. So totally justified."Exactly!
I picked up 3 new releases this morning:Hostage
When You Are Mine
False Witness
All three are by favourite writers so I'm happy 😊

Katrisa, I loved His Bloody Project: Documents Relating to the Case of Roderick Macrae too.
Margo wrote: "Barelyspicy (Bash) wrote: "I bought the rest of Riyria Chronicles from the 70% Audible sale (it was all around 23$) and two kindle books that were on sale a few days ago [book:All Systems Red|32758..."Yay! I am excited. I also recently purchased Piranisi too :)
Kristie - I think it was you who said you were thinking of getting Sandman Slim from one of the Audible sales but was worried it might be too dark. And I am just finishing the second book and I just have to say that the second book made me love this series even more! Maybe if your library has it you could check it out, but this series is one of my fav anti-hero series and the way they are developing the story in this second book is top notch! Now, it isn't for the squeamish
Thanks, Katrisa. That's good to know. My library has the ebook, but not the audio. I'll keep my eye out for it in another sale.
Peggy wrote: "I just picked up an ebook deal, The Rose Code. I now have 3 Kate Quinn books unread on my ereader."I saw that it was on the Kindle daily deals this morning.
I have The Poppy Field on my July list, and went to update my shelves to discover I didn't even have it on my wishlist. I found it on Kindle for just under $3.00. Phew!
The Hairdresser of Harare and The Unexpected Inheritance of Inspector Chopra just turned up in the mail. I have been buying a lot of books from Better World Books the past couple of years, which not only co-donate your spend to literacy programs around the world, but are reusing and repurposing old library books. These ones turned up from Seattle Public Library. The last book arrived from a small library in Wales. The geography nerd in me loves this.
I also got the other day Circe, I was buying something for my brother's birthday and it was on special. I've been asking for it for years, he asked for it for Christmas and got it. So I bought it for me. The bookseller remarked on the purchase and said "I really need to read this, I've wanted to for years." I told her the above and she remarked "Yeah, as you should. And I'm buying my copy tonight too."

I like the idea of Better World Books, and how fun getting books from different libraries. So cool!
And yes, it's about time you got Circe. :)
The last book I finished was from San Jose public libraries, and the one before from Mid-Columbia in Washington State. It's pretty fun, and you know you are helping with some other things in the world.
And I tend to get better deals on the real books then elsewhere, although new releases are not really available.
I'm going to check it out later today. I slept in this morning and I really need to get to work. But I play instead. LOL!
Rusalka wrote: "Lol it's so easy to! Well, for later https://www.betterworldbooks.com/Have a good work day!!!"
Thanks. I've saved the webpage for perusing later.
It's been a morning. I slept in, my tap in the bathtub broke and I had a hard time getting it to turn off, clients came early. Phew! I hope my son can fix my tap because no shower till it's fixed.
I picked up The Raven's Tale from the SYNC offerings this week. The other book, Dust doesn't appeal to me.
Just bought The Twelve and The City of Mirrors, since I'm reading (and already own) the first book in the trilogy, The Passage. I think this is a trilogy to keep in my home library for my kids to read one day.
Sandra wrote: "Just bought The Twelve and The City of Mirrors, since I'm reading (and already own) the first book in the trilogy, The Passage. I think this is a tril..."It's such a good story!
I picked up a couple of whispersync deals recently, In Her Tracks and Geraldine Verne's Red Suitcase. I also got yesterday's daily deal, Back in the Burbs, and used a credit on Malibu Rising. I normally wouldn't use a credit for an audio when I already own the ebook, but I wasn't making any progress on it and I owed a review so I just went for it.
Sandra, I also enjoyed that trilogy. It's one that I've considered re-reading. I read them as they were published and I feel like I forgot some things between books. I think it would be interesting to read them all right in a row, though they are all pretty long.
It would be an investment in time, that's for sure! But it would be so worth it. I plan on reading them again as well.
Just for the fun of it I had to check. The trilogy is 1,936 pages (hardcovers) or 92 hours 41 minutes (Audible).
Janice wrote: "That should keep us out of trouble for a while."For sure! Better make sure we have no other book commitments for a while first. lol

I've been grappling with that myself. I discovered the last two books of Old Man's War is on sale. I will eventually get them, so why not now? Only problem is, my credit card is feeling a bit hot to the touch.
