Ayacchi | 1732 comments It's IIBF here so there are so many discount and I'm purchasing The Little Prince and Three Days of Happiness. Also, I'm ordering The Little Prince Wordsworth edition! I think I'm gonna collect the copies in various languages.

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19228 comments So I had a delivery today, of The Gods of Gotham. I don't remember ordering it, but you know, it is not unknown for me to order books at 3am or after a couple ;)

But after reading through the delivery docket it turns out I ordered it at (a normal person time of 11pm) on the 31 Jan. It was sent on the 1 Feb. And it arrived on the 9 December.

It was sent from the UK but the last postage stamps and redirection paperwork was from Malmo in Sweden. Which I only know from Wallander novels!!

I hate that now even my books are mocking me and gallivanting all over Europe for 10 months when I can't. I have no idea where it has been or what it has been doing.

message 654: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I'm not sure whether I'm more surprised by the fact the book took so long, or that you completely forgot ordering it. Nice surprise though!

(also, I think the book was probably in a box in a dark place in the bowels of several ships or planes, so I'm sure you had a better 9 months ;-))

message 655: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60157 comments It's amazing it made it after all that time.

Oh I know it was probably in a warehouse on a dock somewhere. But part of me believes it must have been lounging on a Croatian beach riding out the pandemic.

Lol, that's what I was visualising too. The book catching a train to do some city trips, have some quality time on the beaches, surfing, exploring national parks, renting a car for a road trip, sipping wine in rooftop bars.. I'm getting jealous too!

Well, I hope you are happy with what you got and do not plan to return it and request something different.

You ever see Amélie? I'm just envisioning the gnome replaced with my book, and some sadistic person will send me a heap of photos of the best Euro Gap Year ever lol.

Oh no! Living here you never return anything as the postage is usually 6 times how much you paid to get it here. So if I do not like it or want it anymore, it will go into the little library down the road. But I am excited for it, particularly as I had no idea it was coming!!

Haha, yes!

Right before we went on our one-year world trip, we played the board game Catan with friends (it was their game) and Rob stole the black thingie (I hope you know what I mean.. surely you do, you're a board game fan right? I only know the Dutch name and have no idea what it was for anymore, except that it was important). He then photographed it in several places, like with the Harbor Bridge in Sydney in the background, Uluru in the background, stuff like that. When we posted photos online these photos were just among other photos and nobody noticed for months!! Our friend searched everywhere for the black thingie, even inside the vacuum cleaner and thought he had lost it. Still makes me laugh when I think about it :D

Kristie | 19366 comments lol, so your book took a long road trip? I really hope you plan to read it for next year's yearly challenge. That would be so fitting.

message 666: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19366 comments lol, Peggy! That's a great story. They must have laughed when they finally noticed it.

message 667: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments They did! And we safely returned it to the game when we got back ;-)

Janice (jamasc) | 60157 comments What a fun thing to do Peggy!

message 669: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19228 comments That is very cool, Peggy. How fun for everyone, and an easily replaceable piece with anything.

Sounds like you took the piece that's known in English as the Robber. Would be interested in what it's called in Dutch. I did have to look it up to double check, our edition it is grey in colour.

message 670: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60157 comments I received a free credit from Audible so used it to get The Eye of the World. We'll be buddy reading this in February.

message 671: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19366 comments Oh, lucky you, Janice! I’ve seen a few people have received a free credit. I was not one of the chosen people.

That sounds about right! It's called 'struikrover' in Dutch, so literally 'bush robber' (someone who lies in the bushes to rob someone, not someone who robs bushes ;-))

message 673: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments More ontopic, I picked up two kobo deals

The Chaperone
The Authenticity Project

Oh! Like a bushranger! That's the Australian version of a highwayman, like Ned Kelly. Either words would work better in English than "robber", so there you go :D

Ah, no worries! They commented on Facebook that they're still sending out emails to qualifying members, so if I'm lucky I may still get one. :)

message 678: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60157 comments I saw that and came here to tell you. You have to be a premium or silver member and joined before Nov 2021.

message 679: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19366 comments Thanks for looking into that, Janice. I'm a premium member and I joined forever ago. Just looked it up I joined in January of 2014. So, I should qualify.

message 680: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60157 comments I figured you would qualify. Maybe take a screen shot of that Facebook page and contact Customer Service if you don't get an email in the next few days.

message 681: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19366 comments Yes, I figured I'd give them a couple days then contact them. Someone else commented that they had contacted Audible already and they were asked to please be patient because they were having some technical difficulties getting the emails out. Seems about right.

message 682: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60157 comments I took screen shots if you need them.

message 683: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19366 comments Thanks, Janice. I'll let you know.

message 684: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I also got a free credit! I'm very surprised. I joined less than a month ago and when joining used an offer that is only 0.99 for the first month, and month 2 and 3 for free.

message 685: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Margo | 11684 comments Yay Peggy!

I picked audible UK daily deal The Color Purple. I've read it before but it's a beautiful story and it will fit a 5ask in 2022 challenge.

message 688: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments In preparation for next year, I spent my free credit on The House in the Cerulean Sea

message 689: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60157 comments Both books are great reads. I read The Color Purple years ago and saw the movie. I don't remember much about it.

The House in The Cerulean Sea is so good! I gave it 5 starts.

message 690: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11684 comments I loved the film, maybe more than the book.

I bought todays DD too, The Sandman. I'm not usually into full cast productions by this does sound good.

message 692: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I got two books in the audible boxing day sale:
The Foundling
Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail

message 693: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11329 comments Peggy, Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail is mentioned in Leave Only Footprints: My Acadia-to-Zion Journey Through Every National Park. Just letting you know because of the task in the 2022 challenge. I made a note on this one among other mentioned, because it looks good.

message 694: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Ooooh that's perfect Sandra!! I'm doing the site with that task but hadn't put in a book yet. Thanks!

Sandra (sanlema) | 11329 comments Hope is a good read!

Janice (jamasc) | 60157 comments I picked up a couple of kindle books - One Boy, No Water and Bath Haus.

Christina ❤️M❤️ (christir1159) | 1 comments I also picked up One Boy, No Water from kindle.

Christina ❤️M❤️ (christir1159) | 1 comments I picked up the audible daily deal How Lulu Lost Her Mind

message 700: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I just picked up Pay It Forward in preparation for the road trip challenge for only €0.99. Perfect timing, as there's one site I'm sure I want to do for badge 1, but I was still looking for a book by an author with CH initials. I didn't own any!
