Margo | 11685 comments Chirp isn't available in ireland :(

message 602: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments It isn't here either, but I pretend I'm from the US. The only downside is I can't download the app so I have to stream directly from the website (so no downloading and listening offline).

message 603: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19228 comments Can you download and use the Chirp app via a VPN service on your phone? (eg NordVPN)

message 604: by Peggy (last edited Nov 21, 2021 05:24AM) (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Funny, I was just googling a work-around and read about using VPN :) I didn't know that was a possibility, and an often used one, apparently.

I'll try the website first, but if it uses too much of my data I'll try downloading it via VPN.

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19228 comments Welcome to Australia ;)

message 606: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments It took some time, but I made it happen!

Kristie | 19379 comments I picked up today's Audible daily deal, Our Woman in Moscow.

I've never read anything by Beatriz Williams before, so I'm hoping it's not to romance filled. I don't know why I have the impression that her books are lighter romance type historical fiction. I'm hoping it's more like Kate Quinn's writing. I guess this will be an opportunity for me to find out.

edit: I think my impression is partly due to her covers and because I've seen her books shelved as women's fiction and romance. This one is highly rated though, so I'll give it a try.

I was struck by the similarity between it's cover and A Gentleman in Moscow's. I decided not to get it. I hope you enjoy it, Kristie.

message 609: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19379 comments Thanks, Janice. I was a little indecisive, but decided to give it a try based on the good reviews. What I didn't do was check my library first and of course they have it. I'm just going to keep it though. It was my own mistake not checking first.

message 610: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60185 comments Sales sales everywhere. Black Friday sales on both Amazon and Audible.

message 611: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11685 comments I nearly got caught like that Kristie but thankfully remembered to check at checkout! Audible UK have a £3 sale, I got
Paradise Postponed
They Thirst
Dragons of Autumn Twilight
Dragons of Winter Night

message 612: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19379 comments I'm usually good about checking, but didn't think of it at all until after I purchased this time. Oh well. I'll remember to check when I go through the current sale.

message 613: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I got another one from Chirp, The Extraordinary Hope of Dawn Brightside

message 614: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19379 comments I picked up a few from the Audible sale:

Every Day in December
The Lost and Found Bookshop
A Boy Called Christmas Movie Tie-In Edition
The Three Mrs. Wrights
The Secrets She Keeps
See Her Die

I also had an issue with Opal Fire. When I went to look for it for the December monthly challenge, I found that the version I have is no longer available for purchase. Because of this, I could only download to my laptop, not to the app. I never listen through my laptop, so I contacted Audible. They removed the book from my library and gave me a credit to buy the updated version. :) So, I happily got that as well.

There was another book in the sale that I had this same issue with. It said I didn't own it and I thought I did, so I went to my library and it was there. Audible said they would replace that one with the new version too, but I can't remember which book it was! Ugh...

message 615: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60185 comments I picked up three books from the sale:

The Blacktongue Thief
The Shadow of the Gods
Someone Like Me

Christina ❤️M❤️ (christir1159) | 1 comments Oh, Janice, All those books sound so good... TBR here they go.

message 617: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Maybe I shouldn't have signed up for Chirp. I bought another one.. A Thousand Ships

message 618: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60185 comments You've been hooked, Peggy!

message 619: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments For sure! I keep thinking off all the extra books I could have read in my life if only I had listened to them as well. But very excited about the year to come because of it :)

message 620: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60185 comments A Thousand Ships is on sale on Audible for $5.00 so I've added it to my cart. At that price, it might be a good option for one of the challenge tasks. Not sure which just yet. "Feminisim" is on the genre list, but it's not on the listopia. Booo.

message 621: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Didn't you make a Greek mythology task?

I haven't thought of anything else yet.

message 622: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11334 comments Yes, mythology as a genre is a task in site 9.

message 623: by Janice, Moderator (last edited Nov 28, 2021 01:49PM) (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60185 comments There's also a set in Greece task and that book is set there. Decision made, I will buy the book. I have other books that are mythology, but I think my Greek books are more elusive.

message 624: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60185 comments Well, here we go! I've purchased 2 books for the upcoming annual challenge:

The Killings at Kingfisher Hill: The New Hercule Poirot Mystery (has a ring on the cover)
A Thousand Ships (set in Greece)

message 625: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11685 comments Is there a cyber monday sale in audible US? The UK site has some books for £1. Most of them were available from my library but I did pick up:
The Power of One
Here To Stay
No One Is Talking About This
and a coupleof Jeffery Devers for my ma.

message 626: by Peggy (last edited Nov 29, 2021 07:52AM) (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Thanks (I think..) for sharing that Margo. I didn't know there was a sale, I would have expected an email to let me know.

I picked up
Call the Midwife: A True Story of the East End in the 1950s
What Alice Forgot
Songbirds (I can't believe this one was actually in the sale!!)

message 627: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11334 comments I stopped by at my library today and bought in its sale:

The North Water (might be useful for the task about freezing temperatures)
The Gravedigger's Daughter
The Bone Clocks (there is also a task about circles in the cover)
Us Against You

message 628: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Nice haul Sandra! I like that you immediately link it to possibilities for the challenge. There's a task with bone in the title too, but that's probably easier to fill than the circles.

message 629: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11334 comments Yes, I thought about bone in the title too, but I was planning to do Precious Bones (which I also own) for that one. It is good to have more than one option, though.

I haven't decided on the sites I am going to complete, I might ended not reading for those tasks, but I have to use the excuse while it is still valid! :)

message 630: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Same! I need to have options!

message 631: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19379 comments Margo wrote: "Is there a cyber monday sale in audible US? The UK site has some books for £1..."

Yes, US is having that too. They added it to our current sale. There is a new tab for books $1 and up. https://www.audible.com/ep/black-frid...

Have you seen the series that is made from 'The North Water'? Really intense and with Colin Farell!

message 636: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11334 comments Saar, no, I only knew about the series yesterday after purchasing it. It was mentioned in a review. Good to know you liked it.

message 637: by Saar The Book owl (new)

Saar The Book owl | 2668 comments It was on the BBC a couple of months ago. I'm going to read the book for one of my challenges.

message 638: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60185 comments I got today's daily deal from Audible: The Dark.

message 639: by Katrisa (new)

Katrisa | 4509 comments Peggy wrote: "Maybe I shouldn't have signed up for Chirp. I bought another one.. A Thousand Ships"

Chirp is so good (for books) bad (for my wallet)! It's like audible's daily deals but there's like 10 a day! I love it!

message 641: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60185 comments I really liked I Heard the Owl Call My Name. I hope you enjoy it.

I bought Beautiful last year but haven't listened to it yet.

message 642: by Katrisa (new)

Katrisa | 4509 comments I have been collecting Juliet Marillier books whenever they are on sale because I loved her Shadowfell series so much. I need to get on reading them and not just collecting them, lol!

message 643: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60185 comments I fell in love with her storytelling with the Sevenwaters series. Blackthorn and Grimm was another fabulous series. I bought the Bridei Chronicles last year and can't wait to dive in.

message 644: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60185 comments From the Amazon First Reads, I picked Murder at Teal's Pond: Hazel Drew and the Mystery That Inspired Twin Peaks. It was the one that appealed to me the most. There was one set in Belgium, but it didn't appeal to me.

message 645: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19379 comments I haven't had a chance to look at the first reads yet this month. I'll be grabbing one eventually.

message 646: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19379 comments I picked up today's daily deal on Audible. The Italian Girls The Italian Girls by Debbie Rix

message 647: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60185 comments I got one of Kindle's Daily Deals today, Murder at Queen's Landing... hmmm, I just realized "Queen" is in the title. I have other queen books, but if I decide to use this one, I need to read book 2 & 3 first. Must go back to my spreadsheet.

message 648: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I used an audible credit for the first time in my life. I got Hamnet

message 649: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I got The One Hundred Years of Lenni and Margot from chirp.

Funny coincidence, I hadn't heard this book before last Saturday. I added it to my wishlist and today it is a deal on chirp!

message 650: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19379 comments That one sounds good to me, Peggy, and I have it on my TBR. I was just thinking that I really should join Chirp, but then I checked and my library has it. :)
