Margo | 11685 comments I felt like treating myself today so I picked up a few books by one of my favourite writters:
A Narrow Door
Blueeyedboy
Blackberry Wine
Holy Fools

message 552: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11685 comments OK, i went back for more!
God: An Anatomy (thank you Rus)
Looking Glass

And then I downloaded a few freebees from audible plus:
Empress and Aniya
Wylding Hall

Janice (jamasc) | 60185 comments I got The Shadow Wand on kindle, and
Who I Really Am: Diary of a Vampire which is an Audible Short freebie. I've always been intrigued by Alice Cooper.

Oh dear, I hope you enjoy it!! We can have a race to see who gets to it first :D

Margo | 11685 comments On no, I do NF at a snails pace!

message 556: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19379 comments I picked up today's daily deal from Audible, plus a couple of $5 audios from their sale.

Local Woman Missing
The House in the Woods
Christmas Shopaholic

message 557: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60185 comments I got yesterday's daily deal, Witches Steeped in Gold. I had it on my wishlist, slated for the museum challenge.

I decided not to get anything from the sale this time around.

I just read Local Woman Missing and liked it a lot!

Oh good! I've been seeing it around and figured I'd give it a try.

message 560: by Katrisa (new)

Katrisa | 4509 comments Sometimes I buy books with stuff on the cover from tricky past Janice tasks just in case they reappear again, lol. Today I bought
The Devil's End by D.A. Fowler
because it has a pumpkin. It was only .99 so I figured it was worth the long shot :)

LOL! I realized that some tasks seem to make their way into new challenges more than others.

Kristie | 19379 comments I really enjoyed The Dutch House, Sandra. It is the only book I've read by Ann Patchett so far.

message 564: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I just went to watch Ruby Wax talk about her new book and Mindfulness and Mental Health in general. It was really good. Got a signed copy of the book A Mindfulness Guide for Survival so I'm looking forward to working through it - it's a workbook!

message 565: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19379 comments Nice, Sarah! I'll be interested to see what you think of it.

message 566: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60185 comments I picked up today's Audible daily deal, The Paris Apartment.

I was going to nominate The Velvet Hours for the themed read which is about the same real life situation, but wasn't sure that it had dual time lines. I saw Alyson Richman's comments on a question about The Velvet Hours and she talked about The Paris Apartment being dual time lines but that her book was all set in 1942, so scrapped that idea. Today, The Paris Apartment was offered as the daily deal and I snapped it up. It's too late to nominate it. Bummer.

I picked this one up today too.

message 568: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60185 comments My cousin posted a Youtube video on Facebook and I was intrigued by the ad. I usually skip them as soon as I can, but this was Joshua Jackson talking about working for the FBI if you had a psychic gift.
He finished by saying, "Only on Audible". I've been a fan of his since Dawson Creek. So I checked it out and it's free on Audible Plus.
Yahoo! Oracle is now in my library.

message 569: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19379 comments Looks like I’ll be adding that one too!

message 570: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60185 comments LOL! We certainly do enable each other.

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19228 comments Swung past the little library on my way home from the shops and found Love Objects

Thanks Janice, I got it too. Another tip I for audible plus is Wylding Hall. It's great to get the freebees! I'm loving the Grady Hendrix selection.

message 573: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19379 comments Good to know they have some Grady Hendrix freebies. I may try one. The only book I've read by him was The Final Girl Support Group and I DNF. I don't know if it was just the book or mismatch for me with the author, so I plan to read something else by him.

message 574: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60185 comments Oooh, I have Wylding Hall on my wishlist. I should go and grab it. And I have a couple of Grady Hendrix's books on my wishlist too.

Rusalka, Love Objects sounds really interesting. While I was reading the synopsis, I was cringing and thinking it was a bad idea to tidy up Nic's house.

Margo | 11685 comments Audible UK have a 2 for 1 sale this week. I got An Artist of the Floating World for me and The Seventh Victim for mum.

message 576: by Katrisa (last edited Oct 30, 2021 04:59PM) (new)

Katrisa | 4509 comments I was so excited to see Audible's daily deal was The Icepick Surgeon! I have had that on hold at my library for like a month and a half and after reading Caesar's Last Breath: Decoding the Secrets of the Air Around Us this month I think it is a book that I would like to own for possible rereads. His writing style is very entertaining and the subject matter is fascinating!
I am still waiting to see what other book I want from the 2 for 1 sale. I know I want Hush as both my hubs and I have been really enjoying Anne Frasier lately. I also got the latest Dune book for my collection Dune: The Lady of Caladan.
From Chirp lately I got like 3 HP Lovecraft collections and
A Hero Born
The Poisoned City: Flint's Water and the American Urban Tragedy
Global Discontents: Conversations on the Rising Threats to Democracy
A Gathering of Ravens and
Twilight of the Gods because I love fantasies based on mythologies and Norse ones are some of my favs

message 577: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60185 comments Your comments influenced me and I picked up The Icepick Surgeon.

Sitting in my sale cart are Undeath and Taxes and The Dark Wind. If I go with Dark Wind, I will get the preceding book, People of Darkness with a credit because it's the next book in the series for me.

message 578: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19379 comments I had The Icepick Surgeon in my Audible cart all day without purchasing it. I just thought maybe I'd pass on it when I came on here and saw this, so I ended up getting it too.

I'm considering a few in the 2 for 1 sale, but haven't made any decisions yet. I want to take a few minutes to listen to the samples first. I've removed a few books from my wishlist recently because the audio samples were just not good.

message 579: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60185 comments I went shopping!

Kindle is offering first reads to Prime members for free. From November's offerings, I got At First Light.

From Audible's 2/1 sale, I got the books I mentioned above for a total of 4 books.

message 580: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4559 comments That sounds like a good one, Janice. I forgot it was November with new free offerings. I'll have to check them out.

message 581: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19379 comments I chose the same book from Prime this month.

I still have a few books I'm considering from the Audible sale, but haven't had a chance to really check them out. There are 9 I'm interested in, but I don't want to use that many credits right now even for a 2 for 1 sale.

message 582: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60185 comments They added a whole whack of new items to the sale. Quite a few of them were cozy mysteries.

message 583: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19379 comments I was just coming here to ask if you saw that. :) I'm taking a quick peek at them now.

message 584: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60185 comments There were a couple of books from the In Death series, but one was in the 30's and the other was in the 40's of the series. I'm at book 11, and I'm not sure I'll maintain my interest long enough to get that far in so I stuck with my original plan.

message 585: by Katrisa (new)

Katrisa | 4509 comments I hope you guys like it! I am listening to it right now and enjoying it. It makes me wonder what things we do now medically that later generations will shake their heads at.

message 586: by Katrisa (new)

Katrisa | 4509 comments I ended up picking Hallucinations from the sale to go with Hush. There were a few more I was interested in, but didn't want to buy more credits so I just let Kevin choose :)

I've thought about this many times! I'm sure there's plenty.

I'll likely get Swamp Spook. I've been slowly collecting the series and have most of it now.

message 589: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19379 comments I picked up Swamp Spook and L.A. Requiem from the Audible sale.

I was considering getting Life Expectancy as well, but I'm not sure what to get with it. I was thinking about The Utterly Uninteresting and Unadventurous Tales of Fred, the Vampire Accountant because it seems like it might be funny and my library doesn't have it. Janice, you just read this one - do you think it's worth a purchase? Anyone else?

message 590: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60185 comments I enjoyed it, Kristie. It was light and fun. It's told in connected short stories and the only downfall was that there was a recap at the beginning of each story that got a bit annoying. The 2nd book of the series, Undeath and Taxes was in the sale and it was one of the two books I bought.

I decided not to get Swamp Spook for the same reason I didn't get any of the In Death books. I'm at book 9 in the Miss Fortune series and this is book 13. I want to get back to that series soon.

message 591: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19379 comments Thanks, Janice. I think I'm going to pass and keep my credits for now. I have more books than I can listen to right now anyway.

message 592: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60185 comments That's twice that it's been on sale that I know of. I bought it on sale last year and it was just on this one. It's likely it will find it's way to a future sale. I wouldn't have used a credit on the 2nd book. I only got it because it was included in the sale.

message 593: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19228 comments I picked up Looking for Alaska from the little library the other day.

message 594: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11334 comments Cool. I also picked LOOKING FOR ALASKA from a little library a month ago. It is the only John Green's that sound interesting to me, so I thought I would give it a try.

message 595: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11685 comments Audible uk have a 2 for 1 and, for once, they have some t8tles. I picked up:
The Other Emily
Speaking In Tongues
Thirteen Storeys
Ariadne
The Last House on Needless Street
The Pact

message 596: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19228 comments I did some Christmas/Birthday shopping for the family and got myself:

The Darkness
River Marked

as a reward ;)

message 597: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60185 comments Awesome reward, Rusalka.

message 598: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I got a welcome $5 voucher from Chirp and used it for Unthinkable: What the World's Most Extraordinary Brains Can Teach Us About Our Own. It was 4.99 so I got it for free, yay!

Good thing too, because when I signed up for Chirp it said it isn't available here, so I just pretended to be from the US. Now I needed to download the chirp app to be able to listen to the book, turns out I can't download it because it isn't available here..

I found a way around this by listening via the website, but I'll have to stream and can't download the book for offline use.

message 599: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11685 comments Peggy, have a look at https://www.audiobooks.com/ too. They have 3 free books in their free trial offer. They don't have such a wide selection but occasionally I've found titles that audible doesn't carry.

message 600: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Thanks Margo!

I got another one from Chirp, Dragon Springs Road
