The Mask of Mirrors"

It looks really good. It kind of sounds like The Lies of Locke Lamora, though from a female perspective. I really wish Scott Lynch would finish the series.

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Sounds interesting! I added it to my wishlist.

I bought Anxious People last week.

I feel you, Janice. I got to 4 and thought I might as well do two more and double my coupon, so I ended up with 6. I also need an intervention.

Kristie | 19366 comments Another new Audible sale is beginning. It is called the Summer Learning Sale. All Great Courses are $10 each. It ends September 10th. Link is here: https://www.audible.com/ep/the-great-...

I'm not sure it's such a great sale, since the books still cost more than a credit...

message 455: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60162 comments They're really pumping out the sales! One right after the other!

message 456: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19366 comments I ended up grabbing a few books from the Audible sale.

The Five: The Untold Lives of the Women Killed by Jack the Ripper
Suspect
Meg / Meg: Origins
The Beekeeper's Promise
Justice Hall
The God of the Hive

I'm not up to Justice Hall or The God of the Hive in the Mary Russell series yet, but I figured I'd get them while they were on sale. It would be great if I could get the whole series that way. My library only has one of the books on audio and it's one of the newer releases.

message 457: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60162 comments I decided to pass on the sale. I'm hoping there will be a sale the beginning of August so that I can use the coupon I'll get at the end of the month.

message 458: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19366 comments It seems like there has just been one sale after another lately, so I'm sure there will be more soon.

message 459: by Katrisa (new)

Katrisa | 4508 comments I plan on getting a few books from the Audible sake but I am visiting Santa Fe right now so I want to wait until I get home and see how much $ I end up spending on shopping on my vacation before I buy books lol. I have bought some fabulous things here in New Mexico!

message 461: by Katrisa (new)

Katrisa | 4508 comments I ended up using an audible credit on Cibola Burn. I have managed to collect quite a few books in the series through the sales Audible has, but Cibola burn has not been on sale and it is the next one I need - so credit it is! I finished the summer challenge that Janice pointed me toward, so this next month I am going to get some series reads in

message 462: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19366 comments I got the Audible daily deal - Band of Sisters. I'm never going to be able to read all the books I've been getting lately, but I can't seem to resist good deal on a book that looks interesting.

message 463: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60162 comments I hear you, Kristie. Did you get your coupon? We were to get it today. I'll give them till Monday and then I will contact them.

Oh, that's right. The end of the month snuck up on me. No, I didn't get mine either, but I've had to contact them for the last 3 or 4 coupons we were supposed to get.

Katrisa | 4508 comments I just finished The Anubis Gates while I was on vacation and LOVED it so when I found a bunch of Tim Powers books for sale on Chirp I bought them all :) SO I ended up with
On Stranger Tides
Last Call
Declare
The Stress of Her Regard and
Hide Me Among the Graves
So fingers crossed that the rest of his books hold up to how much I loved The Anubis Gates! I got all 5 books for $20 so I figured it was worth the risk

I got my coupon last night and applied it today. Woot! Here's hoping for a sale or some great Daily Deals before it runs out.

Kristie | 19366 comments I'll probably message them tomorrow. I still haven't gotten mine.

Katrisa | 4508 comments Kevin and I just rewatched the TV series Firefly (and movie) and so it made me need the books. 3 of the 5 are included with Audible so I only had to buy the second and third books. The Magnificent Nine and Firefly: The Ghost MachineI am looking forward to hanging out with Serenity's crew again! I really wish that show would have had more than one season!!!

message 469: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19366 comments I bought yesterday's Audible daily deal, The Venice Sketchbook, because it is set in Venice and there's been a couple of times I've been looking for that setting for a challenge. I completely forgot that I had received my coupon and so it ended up being free. :)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19228 comments Our brother in law broke his back the other day at the snow (he's fine) but we bought him some books to help him get through the lying on the couch stage. While doing so, I bought us Mexican Gothic

Went via the little library on the way home tonight, and picked up Eleanor & Park and The Good Girl

And my parcel from Sydney arrived with all my cookbooks from Cornersmith, as they had a sale and are in lockdown for the foreseeable future through no fault of their own and we need to support small business when the govs can't get their shit together!
So I now have:
Cornersmith: Recipes from the café and picklery
Cornersmith: Salads and Pickles: Vegetables with more taste & less waste
Use it All: The Cornersmith guide to a more sustainable kitchen

Kristie | 19366 comments Janice wrote: "I got today's Daily Deal using part of my coupon - The Light Through the Leaves."

I'm considering that one as well, Janice. I have the page sitting open on my laptop.

edit: Never mind. I just went ahead and got it with my coupon as well. That coupon won't last forever. Might as well get whatever looks interesting.

message 473: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60162 comments LOL! I understand - right to the bit about leaving the page open pending a decision.

message 474: by Katrisa (new)

Katrisa | 4508 comments I also got The Light Through the Leaves. I was debating but my library didn't have it so I opted to buy

message 475: by Renee (new)

Renee (elenarenee) | 1650 comments I got Not a Happy Family I am hoping for a twisty thriller

message 476: by Katrisa (new)

Katrisa | 4508 comments I haven't spent the time to go through all the Kindle monthly deals for quite a while, but I decided to today. I was pleased to find The Labyrinth of the Spirits for $1.99 so I bought that and then also got
Tears of Amber
Who Would You Be Without Your Story?: Dialogues with Byron Katie
Prime Meridian
The New Moon's Arms
and from the "First Reads" thing you get from Prime I got What Passes as Love: A Novel
From Chirp I got the audiobook The Sound of Gravel

message 477: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19366 comments I ended up getting a few books from the 2 for 1 Audible sale.

Mythos: The Greek Myths Retold
The Throwaway Children
Girl at War
Change of Fortune

I am slowly collecting the Miss Fortune series. :)

message 478: by Katrisa (new)

Katrisa | 4508 comments I only had 1 credit available and didn't want to purchase more as I just had to buy tires for my car and I am trying to get my classroom all ready for kids in just over a week so I pared down my list of 6 books that I wanted from the 2 for 1 sale to just ones I couldn't get elsewhere. So I got
A Little Life (I'll not put the cover so you don't have to see it Kristie ;)
Slavery by Another Name: The Re-Enslavement of Black Americans from the Civil War to World War II

Mythos: The Greek Myths Retold..."

I have been relistening to Fry's mythology series for my going to sleep books lately.

Kristie | 19366 comments Katrisa wrote: "...A Little Life (I'll not put the cover so you don't have to see it Kristie ;)..."

hahaha...Thank you! That is so thoughtful of you, Katrisa. :)

I considered skipping this sale since they have been having so many lately. I feel like I am constantly spending my time looking through sales. But, I had the credits so I thought I should get them while they were 2 for 1.

I wasn't 100% sure about getting Mythos. It seems to be highly rated so I figured I'd give it a try. Glad to see you are re-listening to it. Hopefully, that means you enjoyed it the first time. Or you just enjoy his voice and you find it relaxing and it puts you to sleep. In that case, I hope I don't sleep through it. lol

Good luck getting your classroom set up. I can't believe it's that time of year again already.

message 481: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60162 comments I managed to skip this sale. I surprised myself.

message 482: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19366 comments I just came across this list of free Audible Original Great Courses included in the Plus catalog. There are quite a few that look interesting and I added several to my library.

I picked up:
The Mysterious Case of Agatha Christie
How Superfoods Work
Medical Mysteries Across History
The Hidden History of the Holidays
Powerful Women Who Ruled the Ancient World
Get Organized: Do More in Less Time
The Science of Love

There were few others that looked interesting as well and most of them are pretty short. They seem to be mostly narrated by the author/instructor, so they kind of remind me of longer Ted Talks. lol

Christina ❤️M❤️ (christir1159) | 1 comments I was super excited by the Kindle Daily deals when I looked, even though I actually bought them through google instead.

The Last Policeman
Countdown City
World of Trouble
Dark Matter
Assassin's Apprentice

They also had The Lost Apothecary, but I talked myself out of it.

message 484: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) | 1797 comments I liked the whole Last Policeman trilogy Christina. Hope you enjoy it.

Janice (jamasc) | 60162 comments Tomorrow is the last day of the 3 for 2 credits +$5 coupon on Audible and I couldn't help myself.

I got:
The All-Girl Filling Station's Last Reunion
The Scottish Prisoner
Johannes Cabal the Necromancer

message 487: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11684 comments Ooh, I like the sound of the last one - look forward to hearing what you think of it.

Just saw your comment, but the trilogy is so good! I still need to finish the last book. Did you know there is a tv - series, but it stopped after the first season. It was good, though.

Saar, I know there is a tv series, but I haven't see it yet.

message 491: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19366 comments Saar - I enjoyed the tv series. I was disappointed that they didn't continue it.

message 492: by Katrisa (new)

Katrisa | 4508 comments Janice wrote: "Tomorrow is the last day of the 3 for 2 credits +$5 coupon on Audible and I couldn't help myself...."

I was tempted by that last one as well. I like listening to mythology a lot as I go sleep so I couldn't pass up Their Mythology: Mega Collection: Classic Stories from the Greek, Celtic, Norse, Japanese, Hindu, Chinese, Mesopotamian and Egyptian Mythology which is roughly 30 hours of mythology. It does make for some weirdo dreams I will say!
I also got
The Heart of Everything That Is: The Untold Story of Red Cloud, An American Legend and
The Blood of Flowers

And Chirp had a bunch of James Baldwin on sale today and I think he is amazing so I got a few that I don't own yet
Tell Me How Long the Train's Been Gone and
No Name in the Street

message 493: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60162 comments The Blood of Flowers earned 5 stars from me. When I was looking through the selections, I considered possibly reading it again. We'll see.

message 494: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19366 comments I ended up skipping the sale. I had a few books I was interested in, including two in my wishlist, but I just wasn't feeling it. I think I've bought so many sale books recently that I haven't read yet that I just needed a break from adding to my collection.

message 495: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60162 comments That's how I felt with the last sale. But a couple of titles jumped right out at me on this one, and I caved.

message 496: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11684 comments at last a 2 for 1 sale audible on the UK site! I picked up:
