Elke (elkeo) The Watsons is an unfinished piece included in most editions of Jane Austen's other and short writings.
This fragment of a novel was written by Jane Austen about 1803-1805, but was not published until 1871, as part of James Edward Austen-Leigh's Memoir (Jane Austen had left it untitled; the title "The Watsons" was provided by Austen-Leigh). It describes Emma Watson's return, after a long absence, to her family, who are on the lower financial fringes of the "genteel". It is not clear why Jane Austen did not continue this fragment…

Philina | 342 comments Which edition are you reading? I‘m going for the one on LibriVox, but I have no idea on which edition it’s based.

Elke (elkeo) Hi Philina-
I have not been able to dins any info on different editions so I think it is likely it is all the same? Just a fragment of a novel.

Ruth (misselizabethbennett) | 1052 comments I started this yesterday, after having read
it a few years ago. Compared to Jane Austen's
other novels, this one is rather serious.

Heather | 291 comments Interesting that she would choose a heroine with the name of Emma two times. This surprises me!
