Welcome, Megan, so pleased to have you here. It is hard to be a lover of classics and not form a great attachment to the Brits, but we do get exposed to a lot of literature outside that here, so you are sure to expand horizons if you want to. Your active life sounds so appealing. I used to be an avid hiker, but never tried kayaking...sounds like fun!

Megan | 1 comments Hi friends! My name is Megan and I am so happy to have stumbled across this group. I thoroughly enjoy reading classic books, some of my favorite authors are Austen, Dickens, and du Maurier, but I also read a lot of other types of books and try to read a variety of authors. I organize a Thursday Next book club (we read the classic books referenced in the Thursday Next books) and have loved catching up on the classics I’ve missed. I look forward to discussing and reading the classics with you!

message 218: by Angelique (new)

Angelique Hi, I'm Angelique, a 53 year old mother from the Netherlands. I've been reading all my life but after joining Goodreads my reading has kinda spiralled out of control (in a good way!)
I hope to read those classics that I didn't get to read when they appeared. So far this year, I've read Jane Eyre, Pride and Prejudice, The Catcher in the Rye, Romeo and Juliet, Strange Case Of Dr. Jeckyll And Mr. Hyde: And Other Tales Of Terror and last but not least A Different Drummer

Cassidy Hill Hello everyone! My name is Cassidy but my friends call me Cat. I'm just now rediscovering my love of reading and found that I'm very interested in the classics. I hadn't realized until now just how much I need to catch up on! I'm very excited to feed this newfound passion and would greatly appreciate the book recommendations. I'm also looking forward to the group readings and discussions. Nice to meet you all!

Hello, Cat (I'm assuming we are going to be friends, so I take the liberty of addressing you so). Delighted to have you aboard. Hope to see you at the group reads, or if you have specific books in mind you want to read, you might ask for a buddy read. At any rate, you are sure to find lots of good books and anxious readers here, ready to share them.

message 241: by S A V A N A (new)

S A V A N A (savanareads) Hello! The name is Savana and I'm new to goodreads. I've always been a lover of all things classics related and knew once I stumbled on this group that it would be a great forum to explore the genre more deeply. My faves are Jane Austen, Kate Chopin, and F. Scott Fitzgerald.

I'm currently reading Dracula, but hope to tackle War and Peace or Anna Karenina next.

Other books I'd like to try and get to this year (and next), in no particular order: The Woman in White, Wuthering Heights, Little Women, Jane Eyre, Far From the Madding Crowd, Picture of Dorian Gray, and The Count of Monte Cristo (as a re-read).

I'm happy to gather up more titles to read, so feel free to send me some of your faves, or add me as a friend. :)

Happy reading,
s.

Welcome, Savana. I think you will find Goodreads, and this group, addictive. You already have a stellar list of books to read. It will be fun to watch you tackle them and hear your thoughts. Check out our challenges, there might be something there that will help you remain motivated and chart your progress.

message 243: by Robin P (new)

Robin P Hi, I am Robin from Madison, Wisconsin. I learned about your group from a similar GR group, The Readers Review, which I have been in for maybe 10 years now. As a French & English major, I have read a lot of classics, but never read Shirley or The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, which I see you are doing this summer. I also saw that I have over 20 GR friends in this group!

Besides classics, I read mysteries, romance, fantasy, sc-fi, literary fiction, some nonfiction - pretty much anything except horror and true crime (real life is scary enough!) I retired a couple years ago, so I have a lot more time to read. I read more in the last 12 months while stuck at home than I ever have, or probably ever will again!

Yikes, I see you also have challenges. I am a sucker for those, so will have to check it out. Sometimes I wonder how many more books I could read if I spent less time on GR threads and reporting on challenges!

LOL. A valid question for us all, Robin. Lovely to see you here...I love having all my friends in the same place.

Welcome Savana and Robin. This is the place to grow your To Be Read Lists! Join any discussions or challenge that you like. Our threads never close so you may comment on books even if those books are not a current monthly read. Nominations end on the 14th so check out the nominations threads, too.

message 247: by Natalie (new)

Natalie (nsmiles29) | 842 comments Hi Savana! Welcome! Some of us are still working on a buddy read for Dracula if you’d like to join us. I’m currently about 2/3 through. I’m also randomly reading War and Peace right now and I LOVE it! 😄

Welcome to the group Robin! 😊

message 248: by Michaela (new)

message 250: by S A V A N A (new)

S A V A N A (savanareads) Natalie, I would love that! I've never done one before, but I'll add + message you so that I can jump in with you all.

It would be great to start War and Peace with you, Michaela, in July. I'll most likely be popping onto the discussion boards in this group for that monster of a book once I start.
