Natalie (nsmiles29) | 842 comments Hi Eva!!

This group has introduced me to lots of great reads that I wouldn’t have chosen on my own. It’s been a lot of fun!

Goodreads is the only “social media” I use. 😄

Welcome!!!

Hello Eva and welcome. I know what you mean about FB. I severely limited my activities on there a few years ago, and worlds of opportunities opened up! Join any discussion you like. I love Bingo.

Thanks, Lynn! I've really enjoyed looking at the threads and seeing what everyone's reading. It's nice to be among people who read books other than contemporary releases.

message 107: by Sid_rw (new)

Sid_rw | 54 comments Hello, everyone! I joined goodreads some days ago, having used shelfari before it closed years and years back. I have to read a lot for work (technical books, mostly IT) and so tend not to read a huge amount of fiction, but when I do, I really like it to count :) Yes, I enjoy literature and classics, but I also enjoy modern novels and sometimes have a peek at contemporary works that are making a bit of a splash! I enjoy film and creative writing too, especially interested in adaptations. I also find television can be a stronger medium for character development than film, so sometimes enjoy a good box-set. I find fiction helps me to think about my world and so am not averse to bridging between classics and popular culture, even, if I'm finding links!

I've gone on a bit... sorry - last point, I joined to connect and chat, so hopefully this group does encourage that.

Happy reading, everyone! Meantime I'm half-way through about nine novels, so first thing for me is to finish those :)

message 137: by Yami (new)

Yami (yamiar) | 22 comments Hello everybody! nice to meet you. My name is Yamila (but you can call me Yami), I'm from Buenos Aires, Argentina.

I've been an avid reader since I was a little kid, and my all-time favorite book is the classic "The Count of Montecristo".

I always try to read at least one classic a year, but I don't know if it's just me or classics tend to require more of our time and mental energy. I guess this is why sometimes it's easier for me to just pick a more current one when I want to relax.

I'm hoping this group will help me to "catch up on the classics" and offer a place to chat about them with you all.

Just a quick disclaimer: as English is not my first language I'm prone to make mistakes while writing, I hope you can understand

Natalie (nsmiles29) | 842 comments Welcome Yami!

The Count of Monte Cristo is one of my top five favorite books! I love it so much.

Classics are definitely harder to read. I was just laughing about how it took me 2.5 months to get through 750 pages in Portrait of a Lady but I just cruised through this 650 page modern mystery in a few days. 😂

Exactly my thoughts! 😂. It's so hard to read classics at the same pace. Glad I'm not the only one feeling that way.

As for the group, I've already checked the "buddy reads" section and I'm starting Dracula soon. I'm also curious about the bingo, so I might try that as well!
