Welcome Finn and Silvia. We have 4 group reads each month, challenges you can play with, and Buddy Reads. Threads stay open, so feel free to comment on any book you wish
Hello everyone. Once I read quite a lot of classics (in abridged form) but hardly read them now. I see a lot of enthusiasm for classics in this group so I hope it rubs off on me too:)
Neer and Guadalupe welcome. Feel free to join any conversation you like. Look through the group bookshelf to see what members are currently reading or what we have read in the past. I hope you find many interesting books you enjoy.
Thanks Sara and Lynn for the warm welcome. I am keen to explore the group's shelves. I will get on with it...

Hey everyone! My name is Mary, I just joined the group! I’m excited about getting back into classic literature- I was homeschooled so I used to read it a lot but as i grew older I kind of left it behind. Now I’m ready to dive into it again and it’s already proving difficult lol(trying to read a tale of two cities) I’m going to keep pressing on and hoping it gets easier!
Hi I’m Eleanor. I’m not that new to the group but am trying to be more active here on GR! I love a classic and my all time favourite is Jane Eyre. Happy to accept any friend request too :-)

Delighted to have you here, Dakota. I hope you write a famous book and that I live long enough to read it.😃
Hi everyone! My name is Jessica and I have recently gotten back into classic lit after taking a modern fiction class and falling in love with The Sound and The Fury by Faulkner. My all time fav is still The Great Gatsby though! I am excited to join this group-I think having people to discuss a book with adds so much to my enjoyment! I plan on reading at least one of the books in this club a month.
Very nice to have you here, Jessica. I think you will enjoy the group reads, and remember to check the buddy reads schedule...you might find things you like there as well. BTW, if there is a book you want to read particularly, you can always request a buddy read yourself!

Hello Kyle. This is the place to find classic book recommendations. I look forward to hearing from you in the discussion threads. Welcome.
My name is Kathy. I work at the State Library of Pennsylvania. We've been collecting all sorts of books since 1745. Looking forward to discussions of old classics and finding some new ones.

I would find your job fascinating, Kathy. It always feels like a bit of a blessing to hold a very old book in your hands and know how many others have done this before you. Welcome to the group.
Hi, my Name is Neil. I'm from Hampshire in the UK and am retired. Sadly, I've allowed life to get in the way of reading and many other hobbies so I hope this group will get me going again. My atrophied brain needs a good kicking too. See you around.
Welcome Neil. Please join in any discussion you find interesting. The threads never close. I hope you find many books here that you enjoy.
Welcome aboard, Neil. Hopefully retirement will allow you to jump right back into the reading habit. Loads of good books and good discussions here!
Hello everyone! My name is May, and I am a current college student. Since taking AP English Literature & Composition last year in high school, I have found a new love for classics. Although I am not an experienced classics reader, I can't wait to continue reading classics in this community. I am here because saying I am currently reading "Crime & Punishment" yields more of a "wow! you must be so smart" rather than a "how is it? how do you feel about raskolnikov?". So excited to be here!
Nice to have you here, May. I hope you build a life-long love of classics. I has been a long time since I read C&P, but I remember the impact it had on me. Enjoy!

Keep up the good work, May! We need more university students starting on the literary journey.I am reading Crime and Punishment right now, in the recent Nicolas Pasternak Slater translation for OUP.

Welcome to the group.
Hi! I’m Giulia, i’m from Italy i’m 20 years old. I love reading classics and my favorite book is crime and punishment! ☺️
Hi everyone! I'm Vanessa, from Germany. I recently discovered my love for classics (thanks to the Picture of DG). I think I tended to avoid classics because of two reasons: 1. it was obligatory in school and I could not care less when I was a teen and being forced into doing something usually made me hate it and 2. because I always thought I was not "understanding the books" correctly. I still feel like this when it comes to classics.. that's why I joined this group. I'm really looking forward to get to view some books from another perspective and to maybe get a better feeling in "handling" classics.
However, even when I'm not sure, if I get the "meaning" correctly, I still enjoyed the classics, I've read so far :)
Welcome Vanessa! One of my favorite things about reading classic literature is you get to interpret what it means to you. I think the more you read the classics, the easier it will become for you to catch those subtle hints that the authors give you. This group is great for comparing ideas and sharing enthusiasm- I hope to see you in the chats!
Welcome Guila and Vanessa. Feel free to join any discussion you like. We look forward to hearing your thoughts in the threads.
