Brenda | 7 comments Hi all! Just entered the Goodreads world. I love to read and to write (of course!) and have held the classics near and dear for decades.

I'm based in the UK and travel as much as possible. Reading is also a way to travel through time and space, to stretch the mind, and to appreciate a world beyond the self.

Elizabeth | 2 comments Hi! As a child my head was always stuck in a book but, as I've grown up it's been awhile since I've made time. I recently decided to rekindle my childhood passion of reading. What better way to start than with the classics? The titles I saw in this group caught my interest, and so here I am. Hopefully the community, recommendations, and accountability will encourage me to stay with it!

Happy to have you here, Elizabeth. I highly recommend that you choose a challenge (you can start with just one, so you don't feel overwhelmed) or maybe play Bingo. It will help keep you motivated...and, of course, join in any group reads, buddy reads, or threads that interest you. See you around!

RedSycamore | 31 comments Hi all, I saw this group mentioned in a friend's book review. Love the varied group read picks and the challenges. Anything to help me thin out my TBR list! I'm a big fan of SciFi, Weird Fiction, and classic Mystery, but I've been dipping into historical non-fiction lately and enjoying it a lot.

I have been reading classics for the last few years. I find myself the odd one out in my current social circle as they usually read contemporary or non-fiction books.
I needed a place to discuss the books I read and find new recommendations.

Chloe (chloe_sims) | 1 comments Hi everyone, I'm Chloe. I used to read a lot when I was younger, but since college life has gotten in the way and I just picked up reading again this year. I love classics but always spend too much time deciding which book to read instead of just digging in. I think I'm gonna have a great time here.

Feel free to add me as friend! I want to have more friends here too :D Nice to meet yall!

message 1089: by MyChienneLit (new)

MyChienneLit (morris051200) | 4 comments Hello. I’ve been an avid reader my whole life and love to read the classics. And I’m now enjoying rereading many of the “great books” I first read many ago (no, I am not about to admit just how many years ago it has actually been in some cases) because I’m discovering so many new insights and ideas that for whatever reason I missed the first time around. (Or in the case of my favorites, I find new items to ponder every time I read them even though I read some of them almost once a year.) Anyway, I am looking forward to exchanging thoughts with all of you because I find that reading books in community enhances the experience and enjoyment exponentially.

message 1094: by DragonGirl (new)

DragonGirl (dragongirl953) | 1 comments Hello! I’ve been an avid reader since I was young, and I created a Goodreads account a few years ago, but never joined any groups. However, finally decided to try it out. I just recently got into classics, which is one of the main reasons I joined this specific group, along with the fact that I noticed that one of the books for the month of June was The Overcoat by Nikolai Gogol. I just so happened to read that book last month and really enjoyed it, so seeing that book on the list for this month was a pretty big factor in me choosing to join this group. I’m hoping this group can help me find more classics that I’ll enjoy a lot.

message 1098: by Siddharth (new)

Siddharth Seetharaman | 19 comments Hello, I'm Siddharth from India. I used to read obsessively as a kid but couldn't make the time in intervening years. Books have still continued to be my secret world and happy place and I have begun to read more consistently (though slowly) this past year.

I haven't read classics in ages though the ones I have read are among my favourite books (Pride and Prejudice and Little Women immediately come to mind) and I'm delighted to find this group. Hoping to read more classics and find new favourites!

PS: I'm a little overwhelmed with all the different threads and challenges (which seem innovative and fun though!), so will probably take some time to learn the ropes. I hope to begin with one of the group reads soon!

Welcome to the group, Siddharth. No pressure here--just put your toe in the water and see what you like. If you want to choose just one challenge from the buffet or try for a line bingo, that is a great way to start. If you have questions, the mods here are happy to answer--so, please ask.

Welcome Siddarth. A good place to start might be this month's Revisit the Shelf Book Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen if you liked Pride and Prejudice.
