Welcome to the Group - Introductions
Hello everyone, I'm Rouge from Canada. Thank you for starting a club for classic book readers!
When the local library was closed during the early pandemic days, a friend suggested reading E-books from the Project Gutenberg site. They're mostly older classics, no longer under copyright in North America. I read Middlemarch, The Turn of the Screw, and now I'm reading Crime and Punishment.

My favourite classics at the moment are Pride and Prejudice, The Importance of Being Earnest, Lisistrata and Sostiene Pereira.
Welcome to Cara & Viola. We are happy to have you join us in the group. I love forward to reading books with you.
Welcome Cara and Viola! You are sure to enjoy this group.
Cara--the old house in the Blue Ridge sounds so delightful. I LOVE the mountains and old houses are the best. Good luck with the project.

Welcome Roya. We have five different books we are reading each month, plus voting for future books. Join in any conversation that you like! Also, older threads never close, so if there is a different book you are interested in from the group bookshelf, you can join that discussion as well.
Welcome aboard, Roya. I'm sure you will find slipping back into the classics easy with this group...so much to choose from! See you on the threads.

My name is Allison, and I'm a high school senior in California. I just started getting active on Goodreads because I figure it's better than other social media, and I'm trying to get into a habit of reading for fun before I go to college.
This is the first group I'm joining; I'd really like to work my way through some classics and various books from my shelf. I'd love to add some friends and get to know people here! Currently, my favorite books are Beloved and Grapes of Wrath :)

So...happy to be here with you all and have the opportunity to learn, share, discuss, and dive deeper into what gives me the greatest pleasure.

Welcome Jenny. I also fondly recall the Scholastic book fairs when I was in grade school. Reading is one of those hobbies that retains the wonder it offered from childhood.
Welcome Allison. It is always lovely to see someone building a reading habit early in life. I hope you will join in some of the group reads or buddy reads. Good luck with college!
Welcome Jenny. I also remember the Scholastic book fairs. It would always take me forever to choose from among the books. My public school education was much heavier on classics than yours and I wonder if today's students get any classics at all!

Welcome Rob! Always nice when you can come back to something you love. I have always found that a love of history and literature go hand-in-hand. Lots of choices on books to share here, and don't forget that you can always look for a buddy read if there is a book you want to read that isn't a group read. Enjoy The Portrait of a Lady.
Welcome to the group, Rob. How nice that you just started a book that we are currently reading. Hope to see you in the discussion.

Welcome to the group, Archana. You will fit right in with your love of classics.

Nice to have you here, Archana. The classics are definitely the backbone for most of us readers. BTW, Congratulations on your own book.

Welcome Archana! It's interesting how it's a genre that spans genres as well. And that's excellent that you wrote your novel!

My name is Lisa, I'm 36 and I live in New Zealand with my partner and two maine coon cats.
2020 was my worst reading year ever, I think I read 1 book, I started several but didn't finish them. Reflecting on my reading history I've realised that it's not really the number of books that makes me happiest it's getting to the books "I've always meant to" read i.e. classics. Even if I only get to 12 books this year if they are 12 I have always wanted to read by Barbara Pym, or Elizabeth Gaskell, or a massive Russian novel then I'll be happy. Too often recently I've succumbed to hype and read something really unsatisfactory. Classics and back-list is where I'm happiest :)
Looking forward to chatting with you all - Lisa.

Welcome, Lisa. Hope to see you around reading those 12 great books. It really isn't about the numbers, and sometimes we forget that!

I did a study abroad in New Zealand in college and a small peace of my heart will always be there. It was one of the best experiences of my life. Such a lovely country.

Hello Lisa. I felt the same when I joined this group. There were so many authors I wanted to read, but had not had a chance to yet. I hope you find many books you enjoy here! Welcome.

I'm Eva, and I'm a 55-yo living in Los Angeles -- no kids, 3 dogs. I've always been a reader but found I was reading less as Facebook and similar social media occupied my attention. Well, for a number of reasons, I quit FB, and whaddayaknow, I'm reading lots of books again.
My preference is literary fiction, so this is definitely the group for me. I do a few "fun" or light reads in summer (mostly sensational biographies), but pop fiction usually just disappoints me. I'm looking forward to getting suggestions from others who share my taste in reading.
Heading over to the Bingo Challenge now -- that looks like a lot of fun!
