Hello Mina and Matthew, welcome! This group does keep me enthusiastic about reading. I hope you enjoy it. Feel free to comment on any thread you like.
Matthew wrote: "Hi all! I’m matthew, a 19 year old physics major going into his sophomore year of college. When I was younger I was a certified bookworm. Always nose deep in some book, whether that be a Percy Jack..."
Matthew oh my goodness can I relate! I go through phases and seasons. Finding that balance is difficult. Reading though gives me something I cannot find elsewhere, so I personally am glad I have been able to find time for it again after a couple of very busy and social decades.

Welcome Patrick! I love that you have found us and look forward to hearing your voice in our discussions. We have four books and a short story that we are reading each month. In addition there are Buddy Reads and Challenges. I think the variety of discussions as well as the challenges make this group interesting. Please feel free to comment on any thread as they never close. For example, I commented on a June short story thread last night that people are still discussing.

I like the “Catching Up” idea because even though I have been an enthusiastic reader all my life, there are always gaps to fill, and my retirement is an ideal time to do it.
Patrick wrote: "Thank you so much! I am kind of helpless at group reads because I read too many books “at once”, but I will look at everything.

LOL retirement... I tried that. I had planned on "just" substitute teaching when I got a call from a teaching friend who is now a principal. She said, "I know it's the day before school starts but we really need...." I am now beginning my third year at that elementary school and hoping retirement will be four years away.
I agree we all have a list of books we want to read. A running joke here is how that list of books keeps multiplying.

Happy to have you here, Patrick. I love finding those gems I missed, and you are right, retirement gives you the opportunity to fill those gaps.

Filling the gaps is very enjoyable. There are some titles that should have turned up in one of my many literature courses, but they just never did!

I am Riddhika from Pune, India. I've been on goodreads since 2015. I read quite a few books for some time but due to my academic pursuits, I was on a break for 5 years. I am now back and hope to read more on literature/classics and get connected to like minded people. Pls feel free to drop a message.
Happy reading to you all! :)
Welcome back, Riddhika. Glad you decided to make classics a part of your return. Please join the threads and comment whenever you like!

Glad to see you again. So glad to have you back with us

At the moment, I'm on East of Eden which is an absolute masterpiece and made me remember what is genuine, outstanding, great literature. So, here I am. I live in Scotland, I'm Italian, by profession I work in tech but I've always been interested in all aspects of culture.
Welcome, Martina. I'm with you on East of Eden--remarkable writing! I hope you will have fun getting back into the Classics again. Please feel free to comment on any of the threads that interest you.

Welcome, to all of our new members. I have been absent traveling for the last three weeks, with still a week and a few days left.

I'm trying out groups for the first time too! I've never understood why people don't like classics, and I've tried so hard to get my brother to read them (and I failed lol). I'm glad that people who like classics exist 💀

My name is Lina and I am a student from Sweden.
I’m not really used to this website, I’ve mostly just read by myself, but figured I should try and be a bit more social. I have not read that many classics in the past except for children’s books, so I’m trying to catch up. I’m currently reading “To the lighthouse” by Virginia Woolf which is…fun…when you’re not a native English speaker. I don’t think I’ve registered a single thing I’ve read so far, but hey, at least I’m trying…
Welcome, Lina. Woolf is a challenge, even for a native English speaker. Don't be discouraged if most of it escapes you, you wouldn't be the first!

So excited to discover this group- I grew up in NJ, now split my time between Denver and Topeka, KS. My all time favorite author is JD Salinger (his short stories) and I seem to reread Wuthering Heights a lot. Looking forward to discovering new favorites!
Lovely to have you here, Lorraine. Hope you will find your way into the threads and comment wherever you would like. For Esme—With Love and Squalor, and Other Stories is one of my favorite short stories!
Emu, Lina, and Lorraine welcome to the group. Threads never close, so feel free to comment on anything you find interesting. Also, it's never too late to start a Reading Challenge. Those are always fun. I hope you find many books and people here that you enjoy spending time with.
Welcome to the group, Kathleen. I hope we can get you enthused again! There is always a lot going on, so take the time to check the threads and join any discussion that interests you. Also, for getting yourself motivated, nothing beats the challenges...you can pick and choose from the buffet and only go for a line bingo if you don't want to over-commit.

Welcome Kathleen. I know I continue to find books to read on this website. It has truly changed my reading habits. I hope you find many books and conversations that you find interesting.

Welcome, Ela. I find many people who say they only discovered they loved the classics when they were no longer forced to study them. I do hope you enjoy reading them here, with us. There is truly some of everything to discover.
Welcome to all of our newest members who have joined while I've been at a music festival for my vacation. Glad to have you here.
Hello from Denmark, I am looking forward to reading classics with you. I am a slow reader and may not be able to finish in time, but I will join the discussion later on, if that is acceptable ;-)
I am currently reading Austen and Dickens - and will get to Little Dorrit at some point.

Welcome Aya! Join the discussions whenever you want. Dickens is a favorite of mine. With luck I am planning to read Little Dorit before the year end.
Welcome to the group, Aya. As Bob says, the threads never close, so feel free to comment at any time on any thread. Little Dorrit is marvelous!

This year I have challenged myself to read all my granddaughters high school’ s books to improve my English and to have another subject to speak with them.
Well now I cannot stop reading .
Welcome, Maria. I love that you're doing this to further connect with the granddaughters and that it has grown into something you cannot stop! I am so impressed with people, like yourself, who are fluent in multiple languages.
