Welcome Karen and Nancy. Karen reading is an escape for me as well. I often read according to mood. Sometimes it is light and comforting; other times not. Nancy I also have favorite authors I love to return to time and again. You will both find a wide variety of books to discuss here. All threads stay open and you can feel free to comment on any thread that interests you. Also, we have some fun challenge games to play. I hope you have fun.

I've always been a really big reader, and fond of classics. The first 'classic' I ever read was Virginia Woolf's 'To the Lighthouse' when I was thirteen...though I didn't understand stream of consciousness at the time lol.
I just started reading for pleasure again after finishing up my graduate degree, and decided to download GoodReads not so much to review books but to keep track of my favorites and what I've read lately.
I came to Goodreads for the same reason, Christine, and I am an official addict now. I am in awe of anyone who could read Woolf at 13! Welcome to the group.

I'm really lucky to have parents who are massive readers! Though they're not into classics. They would read to me constantly, and brought me to the library every week. My mom read Little Women when she was twelve or thirteen, and recommended it to me around that age, and that got me hooked. She even read my high school summer reading lists with me so we could talk about the books! (Even though she prefers David Grisham and Janet Evanovich). My dad reads like, a book a week, but is very much into fantasy/sci-fi.
Welcome Christine! We have a wide variety of books and short stories on our Group shelf. All threads remain open so feel free to comment on any book you wish. Be sure to check out the Challenges! They are always fun.

Welcome ! Oh that is a great book Karen! I read several from that series in the 1980s. They are sentimental favorites because they were hand-me-down books from my grandmother who also loved them.

I am A R Vikram. I love to read a lot. I used to read a lot of classics during my college days, so I am looking forward to reviving my interest in that category again.
Welcome, A. I'm sure you will love getting back to classics. So much to enjoy and a lot to choose from here. Be sure to check out the group and buddy reads, and jump right in!

Thank you for the warm welcome Sara :)

Thanks Katy. This looks like an awesome group :)

Thank you Lynn. Nice to be here :)

First and foremost, please excuse any mistakes of conjugation, vocabulary, or in grammar, I am trying my best to use the English language correctly, but I am still very much prone to error. I hope it will not impact your overall understanding of my posts!!
Back to introducing myself :
My name is Hermione, and this is my first time joining a group on goodreads (please do tell me if I do anything wrong). I am a French literature student (I'm not sure how to explain this, but it should equate to the United States' first year of college, and the United Kingdom's first year of university) and therefore am quite interested in reading and discussing books! I've always been a big reader, but since starting undergraduate studies, I have not been able to read as much as I used to in high-school. Nonetheless, I try to enjoy the books I get the time to read and I love to challenge myself with harder reads from time to time.
I pick books from a wide range of genres, from good-old romance books to Montaigne's Les Essais. I am so excited to discover more classics though!!
Thanks a lot for taking the time to read what I'm hoping was an acceptable introduction and have a great day or night or week everyone:)))

Welcome Hermione. The definition of a "classic" is debated. Here we have decided to say that any book first published before the year 2000 is a classic. We do try to look for well-respected authors, but your study of French literature sounds very interesting. I know you will be able to add a great deal of knowledge to our discussions. We only have a few French authors on our group bookshelf. It 's an area that could be exciting to explore!
Discussion threads always stay open so feel free to comment on any book that interests you, even if the book is not one of the books being read this month.

HI! Thank you for your insight into the definition of what is thought of as a "classic" and for your warm welcome:) Excited to discover more authors for sure!
Welcome, Hermione. First of all, your English is impeccable...you would not want to encounter my French! So nice to have you in the group. Looking forward to exchanging thoughts in the threads.

Ps: I'm sorry in advance for my dusty English, feel free to correct me anytime! :)
Have a lovely day!

I'm Jane and I live in the UK and love reading. I don't know much about German literature [although I am half German] but I am interested in French literature - not an expert but I may be able to give you a few pointers!

I moved your challenge list to the archives folders when your account was deleted. It was showing "deleted member" message. Nothing personal.
