Shelly Hi Everyone, I am Shelly and I look forward to joining all of you with the February selections. My high school years were mayhem and I only had one English class in college, so I am catching up with many of these titles. Happy New Year!

Wobbley | 2517 comments Hi everyone! I'm a fan of reading the classics, and looking forward to joining you. Even though I won't have the books until February, I might read some of the January books first, since I'm interested in some of them. Hopefully I'll be able to find the topic threads by the time I'm done! :) The Cider House Rules has been on my TBR for some time, so hopefully I can join for the Long Read this time too.

message 711: by Esther (new)

Esther Hi everyone! My name is Esther. I was in a bad reading slump over the years and had no motivation to read. So I decided to join this club because I wanted books that would uplift me, allow me to think deeply about life, and such. Anyways, thank you to the moderators who created this club for people like me! I can't wait to read the books starting in February, as my goal for this 2023 year is to start rereading classics again :D

Debra Harrison (bookcollecting101) | 5 comments I am a lifelong avid reader since the age of 4 when my Mom bought my first "adult book" for me, The Complete Edgar Alan Poe. I like to laugh and say I am the person I am today from reading Poe at 4... smile. I read fiction and enjoy new literature as well as classics. I look forward to participating in this group.

Welcome Wobbley, Debra and Esther! Please join in any discussion you like. One thing I think that is special about this group is the variety: the fun challenges, the 4 monthly choices, plus the Buddy Reads. There are a variety of books to choose from, and the threads never close. I hope you have fun.

Faith N. | 31 comments Hello, I am Faith Noelle. I love reading all genres but don't have many in my life who enjoy reading or discussing books. So here I am, looking for mutuals. When I was a child my favorite reward was going to the library and being allowed to check out as many books as were permitted. I hope to discover new books and authors and work through a few of those books I think I have read but haven't. Best to all!

Welcome to the group, Faith Noelle. You will surely find other readers to share with here. We have four monthly selections, but don't forget to check out the buddy reads threads as well. You might find the books you really want to read there--and you can request a buddy read if there is something you are particularly interested in, and find a friend to read with.

Explore the site and enjoy!

I’m a huge classics lover and at the moment I’m reading ‘the catcher in the Rye’ by J.D Slinger and I plan on reading ‘the Canterbury tales’ next by Chaucer.
I would appreciate recommendations:)

Lynnie | 3 comments Hi, I'm Lynnie and have just joined this group.

My favourite classic authors are Elizabeth Gaskell, Jane Austen, Edith Wharton, Charlotte Bronte and Elizabeth von Arnim.

I'm currently rereading North and South, one of my favourite books.

I've been looking through the group and love the set up of the four monthly reads and hope to try new to me classics.

Nice to meet you all !

Hi. I'm Karen. Currently I'm reading All Creatures Great and Small by James Harriot. I like my reading to be simple and non-stressful. There's enough stress in life...lol
I'm also a mom of 3. (26,22 and 10) My lil man has autism. I don't get a ton of time to read-but trying to find more for myself. Glad to be here and hoping to make a few friends. : )

message 745: by Sara, Old School Classics (new)

Sara (phantomswife) | 9407 comments Mod
Welcome, Karen. I absolutely understand what you are saying about not adding to the stress with the reading! All Creatures Great and Small is a perfect choice for that. You have your hands full, so I am glad you find time to slip a book in here and there. Hope you will find the time to surf the threads and join in on a group or buddy read.

message 746: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks so much, Sara. I do hope to find more time to be here and to read. I also always advocate for those I love.
Autism
Pitbulls
Elephants
If anyone else likes to discuss these (or any) topics along with reading-I'm open. Thanks for the fast reply. Oh-and coffee-there always has to be coffee! ; )

message 750: by Nancy (last edited Mar 12, 2023 11:46PM) (new)

Nancy Inglese | 3 comments Hello. I'm Nancy, I'm a secondary-school student (I live in London, so I don't really get the whole 'middle-school'/ 'high-school' thing). I love classic literature, especially Jane Austen (all six novels, juvenilia and various biographies have been reread SEVERAL times), but I am currently looking for more obscure classics to get hold of. Much of my time on Goodreads is spent purging Blyton of the 'read' list (courtesy of my eight-year-old sister, who seems to be fully aware of my password every time I try to change it). When I'm not on Goodreads, and I don't have my nose in a book, I'm usually scribbling my own insipid stories and poetry, and then feeling quite rightly ashamed of them, or embroidering (I tried and failed crocheting, and knitting gives me too many granny vibes).
