The title of the book is the same as the name of the main male character, but when I look up "Tal" or "Tas" it doesn't come up.

The book begins on the night of the eldest daughter's wedding. Tal kills her husband-to-be, but for some reason cannot kill her. Tal and the noblewoman escape to nearby caves, where they rescue children. With the help of the noblewoman, Tal confronts his demons and saves them all. Definitely a duology, maybe a trilogy. Later books talk about Tal going back and confronting the evil people who made him into an assassin, etc.
