3. BOTM Participation points
--You earn 3 points for reading the book, discussing and reviewing the book. A review can be a one liner, yes it was good. No I hated it. Etc. *Please post your reviews in the folder for 1001 Book Reviews. Please check the index for links, if no link, check “search discussions” to see if anyone else has previously posted a review. If none found, create a new topic.
--If you just discuss the book, but not read it during the month, you get 1 point. We like people to discuss. This would be option if you read it previously but don’t want to reread.
--1 point if you read the book and don't discuss it, 2 points if you read and write a review in the folder for reviews.
3 points: read, discussed reviewed
2 points: read, reviewed
1 point: read
1 pt, Bonus: read, discussed and reviewed both BOTM
5 points if you host a BOTM
BOTM must be read in the month, you have a 5 day grace.

Creator of the buddy read gets 3 points for reading, discussing reviewing and 1 point for each person that joins them, completes the book and discusses the book and writes a review.
Buddies earn 3 points for reading, discussing and reviewing just like they do for BOTM.
4. QUARTERLY: 12 points for reading, discussing, reviewing
12 points for reading, discussing and reviewing Quarterly BOTM
6 points if you read, review but don’t discuss
3 points if you read the book only
3 points if you previously read the book, but you participate in the discussion.
15 points if you moderate a quarterly book
If you have read a quarterly selection but still want to do a quarterly read option
You can choose to moderate, you will earn more points than if you read the book or
You can opt to read a previous quarterly read and participate in the discussion (see past Quarterly Reads), you will earn the 12 points for reading, discussing and reviewing.
YEARLY: There are 3 sections to our annual book this year

60 Total pts, read, discuss and review
20 pts for reading, discussing each part
If you read the yearly read, you can substitute a Past Yearly read from the bookshelf (read, discuss, review).
BONUS POINTS:
24 points if you read all the BOTM choices 24 books (can substitute Buddy read)
15 points for reading all the quarterly reads. 4 books (can use alternate Past Qrtly)
12 points for completing the yearly read, 1 pt for each month (can substitute a past yearly read)

Randomizer list
Generating a list will gain you 5 participation points, reading and reviewing a randomised book will give you 2 participation points (3 for a WL book) and swapping a randomised book will cost you 3 participation points.
Hosting: 5 pts for BOTM, 15 points for Quarterly.
Others: Must review the book to earn points
A book under 150 pages: 1 point
Books between 151 and 599, 2 points
Books between 600 to 1000, 3 points
>1000, 4 points
If you read a previous BOTM, Quarterly Read, Annual Read you can take a bonus point of 5 points if you read, participate in discussion (see past threads) and review.

Rules
You must read a book within the designated time period. BUT-- you can go 5 days over the time, to read, discuss and participate (there are options if COVID lockdowns interfere)
Newbie rule: a newbie can read back and catch up on anything prior to their date of joining the group. If you joined in March, you can read January and February BOTM, Quarterly and annual. If you joined in February but just lurcked around until July. The start date remains February. (Make Sense?) Excluded is the TBR takedown, you are invited to make a TBR takedown list and leave blank the numbers that were previously drawn.
Flashback 2020
Because reading changed in 2020 due to libraries closing, delays in deliveries, etc.
During 2021 you can opt to read any of the books from 2020; BOTM, Quarterly, Annual and if you get them done in 2021, take ½ the points. So yearly is 60 pts (take 30 pts, Quarterly is 12, take 6. You must read, discuss, and review to earn these points, BOTM 2 points.
Wow, my brain must be getting addled. I think I figured out my points more or less correctly finally. For someone who holds a math minor, one would expect that tallying up points would not be so hard. I misplaced my buddy read thread for The Thin Man, or more probably it moved, but I did eventually find it, and found most of my reviews, though I ought to double check that each book I claimed points for actually has a review. It is 1am here now, and I may easily have overlooked one when I was double checking. The TBR Takedown points when combined with the page numbers based points made no sense, so I assumed for now that the TBR points rules supersede the general points rules. It does mean that one might not want to use longer books on that game since they may only get 1 point if they were picked for month #1 or #2. I read Ulysses, Middlemarch, and A Suitable Boy as TBR Takedown picks, and those would have higher points now for being long books, if read for general points.
