I have the Oxford World’s Classics edition and have compared the chapters. They seem to be a little different. I have tried to match them up and came to the following (as the chapters are differently translated and differently split, it might not completely match, esp. around chapter 26/27 in the following schedule):
Week 1: Ch.1 (The phantom of Richelieu) - Ch.7 (D’Artagnan is at a loss...)
Week 2: Ch.8 (Of the different influences...) - Ch. 14 (In which...if Porto’s was discontented with his lot...)
Week 3: Ch.15 (Two angels’ heads) – Ch.20 (Grimaud on duty)
Week 4: Ch.21 (What the pies ... contained) - Ch.25 (One of ... forty means of escape) /
Week 5: Ch.26 (D’Artagnan’s timely arrival) - Ch. 30 (The Place Royale)
Week 6: Ch.31 (The Oise Ferry Boat) - Ch.36 (The Eve of the BattIe)
Week 7: Ch. 37 (A dinner as of yore) - Ch. 42 (The uncle and the nephew)
Week 8: Ch. 43 (Paternity) - Ch. 45 (... that the first move is always a good one)
Week 9: Ch. 46 (The Te Drum for the victory of Lens) - Ch. 51 (Misfortune helps the memory)
Week 10: Ch.52 (The Interview)- Ch. 57 (L’Ecossais, parjure...)
Week 11: Ch. 58 (The Avenger) - Ch.63 (Health to the fallen majesty)
Week 12: Ch.64 (D’Artagnan finds a plan) - Ch. 69 (The Workmen)
Week 13: Ch. 70 (Remember) - Ch. 76 (The port wine (concluded))
Week 14: Ch. 77 (Fatality) - Ch. 82 ( The combat at Charenton)
Week 15: Ch. 83 (Journey to Picardy) - Ch. 90 (Strength of arm and strength of mind (concluded))
Week 16: Ch. 91 (Mazarin’s Oubliettes) - Ch.97 + Conclusion
I hope this will help a little for those using Oxford’s edition. Maybe we will have to double check the chapters with the group on a weekly basis.
😉
Great, thanks for doing all this work, Hedi! I think the Oxford chapters generally match the original French chapters, which also are 97 + Conclusion. I am using a Gutenberg version for the English so I don't even know which translation it is, as well as a French "Livre de Poche" (paperback) I bought in 1971 on one of my first days on study abroad in Paris.
If anyone is reading the Ellsworth versions, we may have additional discrepancies, including of course the fact that there are 2 books, so the chapter numbers will start over at some point. Thank goodness Dumas used chapter titles instead of just numbers!

I’ll try to get the Ellsworth version from the library
(just for comparison).

Hedi, if you have time to check your edition against the new schedule i just posted, feel free to make any needed updates. Thanks for your help for those who have the Oxford edition.

📖 the first Ellsworth book
📖 the free Project Guttenberg one
and
📖 my original copy in Bulgarian
It only gets confusing if I look at all of them 🙈🙈🙈

Exactly - I have a Gutenberg English, a Gutenberg French and Ellsworth and they are all on a tablet so I can't look at them at the same time. I had the French paperback version that I bought in Paris in 1971 but when I took it off the shelf it literally fell apart!
The good news is that except for the Broussel chapter, the text should be the same for all editions.

Wow! If you need more clarification, I could post the last sentence or some other info. But it sounds like you have it figured out.
We will start Jan 3 and go through April at the rate of 6 chapters per week. We will check as we go along to make sure we are in sync as we have found that some versions had different numbers of chapters. I have posted the titles of starting and ending chapters to help with this. Of course, different translations may have slightly different wording for the titles. As you'll see, there's already some confusion in the first week. Some of you are reading in other languages than French or English, so we will consult as needed.
If you run into problems or questions, please contact me or post in this thread. Also let me know if you think 6 chapters a week are too many. As usual, Dumas is a fast read, but the lengths of the chapters seem to vary. We can always slow down or take off time to catch up. As always, it is fine to read at your own speed and post to the weekly threads whenever you get to that section.
**note added on Jan 30** I have adjusted some chapters below because, as Hedi noticed, in the middle they get off quite a bit. Also once we pass Chapter 46 in Ellsworth, he goes to a different volume. So I have redone the later part of the schedule and used chapter titles instead of numbers. I did provide the Ellsworth chapter numbers for the 2nd book, Royal Blood.
With this redo, chapters for each week have changed, and the number of chapters to read each week may be 4, 5, 6, or 7 depending on your edition. Who knew just figuring this out would be an adventure in itself?
Week 1 - Jan 3 - 9 - Ch 1 (The Shade of Cardinal Richelieu) thru 6 (d'Artagnan at 40) - Note - there is a discrepancy between the English & French version. The French has a Ch 7 - D'Artagnan is Embarrassed But an Old Acquaintance Helps Him. In the English that is folded into Ch 6, ending with "D'Artagnan set out for Notre Dame"
Week 2 - Jan 10 - 16 - Ch 7 (. .Strange Effects. .) thru 12 (Porthos Was Discontented)
Week 3 - Jan 17 - 23 - Ch 13 (Two Angelic Faces) thru 18 (Grimaud Begins his Functions)
Week 4 - Jan 24 - 30 - Ch 19 (Pates made by . .) thru 25 (One of the Forty Methods. . )
Week 5 - Jan 31 - Feb 6 - Ch 26 (A Timely Arrival..) thru 31 (Place Royale)
Week 6 - Feb 7 - 13 - Ch 29 or 32 (The Ferry Across the Rise) thru 34 or 37 (The Eve of the Battle) - this whole section follows Raoul
Week 7 - Feb 14 - 20 - Ch 35 or 38 (A Dinner as of Old) thru 40 or 43 (Uncle and Nephew)
Week 8 - Feb 21 - 27 - thru Ch 43 or 46 (In Which it is shown that the First Impulse. .) - for Ellsworth this is the end of the book and you need to continue with Blood Royal. This is a shorter section but this way we can make sure everyone is literally on the same page! I have a French and an English version with 2 different numbers of chapters in addition to Ellsworth so I will just list the chapter titles and the Ellsworth numbers.
Week 9 - Feb 28 - Mar 6 - Te Deum for the Victory thru Misfortune Refreshes the Memory E (Ellsworth) ch 1-6
Week 10 - Mar 7 - 13 - The Interview thru The Scotchman/also called "Like Judas. ." E ch 7-12
Week 11 - Mar 14 - 20 - The Avenger thru Respect to Fallen Majesty E ch 13-18
Week 12 - Mar 21 - 27 - D'Artagnan Has an Idea thru The Workmen E ch 19-24
Week 13 - Mar 28 - Apr 3 - Remember thru The Port Wine or End of the Port Wine Mystery (some editions have 2 chapters for that) E ch 25-30
Week 14 - Apr 4 - 10 - Fatality thru The Battle of Charenton - E 31-36
Week 15 - Apr 11- 17 - The Road to Picardy thru Brawn & Brains E 37-42
Week 16 - Apr 18-24 - The Oubliettes of Mazarin thru Conclusion E 43-48
