I thought Scythe was good but didn't live up to the hype. If I rerated the series it would be more of a three-star series. The last book ended in such a cheap way and it was way too long for what it wanted to accomplish. I thought there was a good amount of romance but I only liked Thunderhead (out of the two sequels). The pacing was fine but in my opinion, it didn't matter because the series still ended up really mediocre.
I tried reading the first book but had to DNF because it was too impossibly slow for me to get through.
Scythe blew me away but the sequels were meh.

I actually thought the romance was unnecessary, my only complaint about the first book.
