I did not realize I was reading this great authors last book. I have long been a fan even when I was younger and really did not understand them. Not always sure I am understanding them now either but it takes nothing away from the enjoyment. I certainly increase my vocabulary. I love the polite way of discussing sinister things. His books are tricky they are slow but also thrillers at the same time. Most are about a loss of innocence for one or more characters and guilt and regret of the spies, but nothing is ever that simple. His sentences are a work of beauty. It stated something to the effect that he can convey more about a character in one sentence than most writers and I agree. This was not my favorite of his but still enjoyable. It also took me a while to get into it. However, once in the middle I could not put it
Absolutely loved it! One of his shortest but I think he knew he was out of time and packed a punch. I had not even known about this last book until I literally almost stumbled over it in a box in front of a stoop. My question, please: Does anyone else suspect he might have been writing about his own son and/or daughter?
Agent Running in the Field is the first Le Carre book I was able to finish-I tried starting a few of them, but I never could get through them. This time I forced myself to read the whole thing. Not being a connoisseur of spy novels, I was confused about some of the things that took place. I didn't get how they figured out Ed was a Russian asset. I thought he might have been one from the beginning, but I didn't get how they figured it out. There were timesI really didn't understand what was taking place.Anyhow, it wasn't one of my favorite books.
