Adam | 3 comments Hi!
I've been writing for some years but only got into writing novels about 2-3 years ago. However, I think it's safe to say the bug has bit me!
I'm looking for someone of similar (or greater) writing experience to critique my first manuscript with the working title "The Ascended". In exchange I would gladly critique your work, be it a full manuscript or a few chapters.

My story is a rather lengthy one, just shy of 190k words, so if you'd prefer to take it on piecemeal over a longer period, or only for a fixed amount of chapters, I'd be open to that as well. I should mention I've done a great deal of self-editing, so it's my hope the reading experience will be rather pleasant. I'm mainly looking for feedback on story structure, character development and the like. The genre is dystopian sci-fi.

A short blurb for the story:

"Three centuries after the collapse of the Old World, a disaster catalyzed chiefly by climate change, humanity stands on the brink of extinction. A few scattered communities still cling to life, eking out an existence in the harsh world that's been left for them, but progress, a reclamation of the Old Ones' former glory, is centuries if not millenia away, if indeed humanity can even endure for that long.

This has been the bleak truth passed on between generations of survivors and it is a truth known also to Rowan, First hunter of her village. But, like many others, she will soon know better, soon learn of the society founded by The Seven - The Ascended - and their zealous followers, a society now poised to conquer her home."

In terms of my own critique style, I'd say I'm encouraging but honest. My main genres of interest are sci-fi, fantasy, horror/thriller and to some lesser extent mystery, YA and historical fiction. However, I'm not closed to other genres and would be open to CP/swaps in other genres if the synopsis sounds interesting!

Looking forward to any and all replies! :)

Scott Rhine (rhine) | 54 comments I have a 48k word present day genetics sci-fi (already been checked by a genetics professor) called Preconceptions.
If interested in a swap, send your doc file to ScottRhineBooks@gmail.com
Petra is a medical engineer who helped zoologists to save elephants and coral reefs. Now she is building devices to help human children before they are conceived. The field of eugenics has a bad name, and with a prison ankle monitor, her reputation is even worse. As the science advisor to a major contender for the presidency, she needs a PR boost. Hendrix is on his fourth career, having failed as a rock guitarist and a war journalist. It’s his job to help the nation understand and like this abrasive and reclusive woman, but due to death threats against her, he needs a bulletproof vest to even visit her. After an incident, he moves into the senator's mansion with her. He’s always been a sucker for a woman in trouble and falls for her snow-white savannah cat the first day.

I have a 99000 word sci/fi novel. My novel is in the year 2038 with autonomous vehicles, longer lasting drones, and a CRSPR-Cas9 bio-terror attack in Florida. I've revised it several times but always looking for more beta readers and CP's. I'd be willing to swap with you and we can critique one another. Send an email to HermannDiehl@me.com if interested.

Nathan Slater (nathanslater) | 9 comments Scott, I would read Preconceptions and provide feedback. The premise sounds mind-blowing and your blurb writing style is what I enjoy reading. I am an author and animator but don't have anything ready to swap, at present.
