The prologue opens with a woman being trapped in the trunk of a car that is then dumped into a lake. When Victor Kruger’s car is raised from the river and the remains of a body is found, were you certain in that moment it wasn’t him because of that first scene or did you consider there may have been two cars in that river?

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments I was sure it was the same car/woman that we read about in the prologue. I just wondered who put the woman in the trunk. I really didn't think it would be Vic Kruger.

At first, I considered the possibility of there being two separate incidents but then that just didn’t make sense. I shifted to knowing it wasn’t Victor.

Susan (cruelshoes) | 158 comments I thought it was Victor at first

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 1808 comments I was expecting Victor to be in the trunk, but once it was revealed that it was a woman, I understood that the victim in the prologue was a woman.

I know I sound like a broken record with this author by now, but once again there is a discrepancy here. The victim in the trunk is crying out and speaking. She asks for help.

Later, during the autopsy, the coroner says that the hyoid bone was broken. There is no way, the victim would have been able to speak with a broken hyoid bone.

I caught that, too. King did note in that prologue that he was surprise she was still alive. To your point, I questioned whether a person could talk after having the hyoid bone broken.
