***Golden Oldies with a random twist
I’m in. Level TBD.
The random option got my attention and here's what my options are based upon the random organizer and only choosing books added to my shelf prior to 2018:
#1
2/25/16 #2
2/16/15
Not sure if I'll go with this approach or just track everything owned prior to 2018 like I did last year.
#1
10/23/14 #2
11/30/15 #3
9/15/15 #4
9/17 #4
5/17/17 #5
12/26/13

Golden Oldies: going for 25 randomsI have a random list from last year that I’m going to be trying to finish off:
https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...
Hmmm, I'm slightly confused. What qualifies as a golden oldie -- any book already on my TBR shelf? Or is this the one where they need to be considered a classic?

I still have some Kindles from 2012 I haven't read!
I'm in for Oldies all the way! I just finished packing up my bookshelves for our move, and I have to get then cleared off for new books.
Thanks, Loraine. In that case, I'm in for at least 25, Cruising. I'm going to try to read only paperbacks I've owned for years until I'm done with my stack.
Lila, I would say it's subjective. In 2020, I used books owned prior to 2018 as my Golden Oldies. It's up to you! :-)
I'm in! Books on my TBR shelf. Going for 12 books.1.

I love this idea! I'm in! I'm going to try the random option, but I have a couple older books I'm planning on reading so I might do a combination of the 2 options. :) Goal is 10 all added prior to 2017.1.

I'll try for this one and aim for 30. I'm going to randomize my choices, but probably with a slightly different method so I can pick again if I happen to draw something at the end of a series I haven't started. ;)
I enjoyed this challenge last year, realizing how many books had been shelved for so long! I am going to aim for 3 books, doing it the old way with books from 2016 and before.
I'm going for two lists:1. 10 Random books:
4/10
√#1
- 1/19/2018#2
#3
#4
#5
√#6
√#7
#8
√#9
- bought 2013#10
2. 10 Books I bought prior to 2016
5/10
√#1
- 03/16/2015√#2
- bought 2014√#3
- 03/16/2015√#4
- 12/20/2016√#5
- bought 2015
I did really bad on this one last year. But I need something to push me to read those books still waiting to be read after five years! I'll commit to 6 books, Just a Few.
Well, I started off responsibly with one of my longest TBR books, at over 700 pages. Although I love many of Lori Wick's other books, this one wasn't a favorite. But I finally read it!1)
(8/5/2015)
So, unlike most of my golden oldies which I own but don't want to read, the book I just read was one that I have long wanted to read but didn't own. A friend lent it to me a week ago, and I finally got to read this book, which is truly a treasure!!!2)

Sarita wrote: "hahaha Bonny - books you own you don't want to read. Think we all have those...maybe time to donate?..."Hahaha, good point!!! But some of them have turned out really good after all! Others, not so much. You win some, you lose some!
What a fun way to "hold myself to it" to get some oldies off my TBR list! I'm in for Fair to Middling and aiming at 10.#1

Outlive Your Life: You Were Made to Make A Difference from 2011. A gift from God for this moment in time. I loved it!
Late to this year's challenges, but we've been preparing to move since Christmas and are now settling into our new home. Looking forward to reading again! I'll try for books published 5 or more years ago - "fair to middling" (6-12).1)
June / Lori Copeland (1999)
Congratulations on your new home Carole! I moved in 2019 and it definitely consumed most of my time for several months. Welcome back to the joy of reading. :-)
Mid-year check-in: I didn't pick a goal for this challenge. Thus far, I've read two of my random ten and four additional. All of my books for this challenge are ones owned for 2018. I would love to more than double the six golden oldies I have read by year end.
I also need to focus more on this in the second half of the year: 3/10 from the random list done and 3/10 from my own golden oldies list.
I'm doing pretty well on this one 19/31. I am really trying to work on some old Kindle and books that have sat on my bookshelf for a long time.
I aimed at completing 10 and so far I'm at 4/10. Thinking this could get me to about almost one a month (in addition to others read along in the year). More focus now for the rest of the year to complete my challenge! I might have to look for a Finish the Series challenge in 2022 :)

Step 1: Select the number of books you want to read for this challenge. ( the choices are at the bottom of the My books page- 10, 20, 30, 40, etc- per page)
Step 2: Go to the “My Books” tab on the top of the Goodreads Page.
Step 3: Bring up your “Want To-Read” shelf. ( or you can create a special shelf just for this challenge if you'd like)
Step 4: On the bottom of the page in the middle, go to the “sort” field and select “Random.”
Step 5: Goodreads will generate a random list of books for you. These will be the books that you read for this challenge.
Or if you are like "too much trouble" then just do this challenge the old way and look to read your books that go way back on your t-read shelf.
Just a few- 1-6 Golden Oldies
Fair to middling- 6-12 Golden Oldies
Making a dent-13-24 Golden Oldies
Cruising - 24-30 Golden Oldies
Oldies all the way- 31+ Golden Oldies
Either way you do it- here is your tracker-https://www.goodreads.com/challenges/...
