An ARC is basically a book, but available before release so that people, i.e. readers, out there know it exists and to buy it after it releases. Publishers give out ARCs hoping that when advance reviewers and readers read and review them, more people will find out about the books, resulting in more books sold.

While every publishers criteria differ, on netgalley at least, the best way to get arcs is to have a good social connection, i.e. friends and followers, ability to write reviews and write them regularly and on time, and being able to promote the book (though this is optional, but book blogs, instagram, twitter, facebook and other accounts go a long way in ensuring an arc)

if you're on netggalley, i'd suggest going through the pages of different publishers, and seeing what each of them like in their requesters....you'll get a good idea of what you should have to get approved, though those preferences are often overstated

So, I just got approved for my first ARC form Edelweiss, and enied for naother by the same publisher (harperCollins) minutes after that.

I did get approved for one htough XD
