What's The Worst Book You've Ever Read

I am with Alina on The Goldfinch. To me the book had a great plot and characters, but I pushed to get through all those details! And the F words? I don't think teenagers can say that many if they tried. It just went on and on when it could have been a good 300 page book.

Also had a bad attitude after The Story of Edgar Sawtelle, same issue. Plus an ending that really stunk. I sometimes think that the "critics" that love these books must be so depressed, because they just think the saddest ones are the best. Is that supposed to be "real life"?

Thankfully I have a used book store that gives me credit for those books that I take back.

I'd say the worst was The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. My class had to read it for 11th grade English. None of us could get past the half-way point of the book, and it took the teacher threatening the entire class with detention for any of us to finish.
It's long-winded with an ending that makes the entire book completely pointless. I've avoided anything by Mark Twain ever since because that book was so horrible.

I read it on my kindle and kept thinking the device was acting up because of the funky formatting. Didn't care for that book, but read it for the 1,001 books to read before you die challenge.

I was planning to read this week 2, but never got around to it yet. I figure there are lots of romances out there and a lot of free ones for Kindle too...not worried about catching back up on that week.

I was the same way with my Nook, and I was so worried it was glitching out that I would constantly stop the story and open another book to see if I would see the same thing with others.

This thread is too funny! :-) I have to give it to 50 Shades of Gray.I read it because my daughter was going to read it and I wanted to know what it was all about. I regretted that choice made it through the first book, but I do not ever need to read number two or three. The girl said "holy crap" 50,000 times Anna enough enough :-)

Definitely the Twilight books. I can't believe I forced myself through not only the first piece of drivel but its three awful sequels. I found absolutely nothing redeeming in them whatsoever, and by the end I couldn't care less if they lived or died (and actually can't remember).

Honorary mentions go to Fifty Shades of Grey (which, like the Twilight books, I picked up for a bit of escapism) and The Hundred Year Old Man Who blah blah blaaaahhhh ... so incredibly dull I could barely even get through the title. I didn't finish either of them - after my Twilight experience, I don't finish books I can't stand any more. Life's too short!

Although honestly there are a few I've read recently which in retrospect I shouldn't have finished either.

I'm going to own up to it, I actually really enjoyed the Twilight books. I read all of them and saw all the movies :-) ;-) I don't know what that says about me though.

I really enjoyed them too! I also enjoyed the 50 Shades books.

I use almost all of my reading as escapism and they just fall into the type of books I enjoy.
