A good book, but a difficult subject. Due to life happening I wasn't in the right headspace and avoided reading it most of the time. But I did finish it.

Calibre has picked Ruth Ware's One by One as my next read. Hopefully this will be an easier read for me.

Good, but not great. Somewhat predictable, at least for someone who has read many thrillers, detective and mystery stories.

Because my reading slowed down during the first half of the month I'm thinking of continuing the random challenge in August, or at least the first half of the month.

Up next:
The Wrath and the Dawn by Renée Ahdieh.

Bianca van Willigenburg (biancavw) | 1752 comments I can't get into my current book. I'm on page 31, so I'm going to give it until page 50. If I'm still not into it I'll move on to the next book. I've had Calibre already pick out my next read just in case.

Although it took me almost a month to read I really enjoyed this book. It's the first in a duology about Arthur Conan Doyle, who gets caught up in a fight between good and evil. He is recruited by a man who later inspires him to write Sherlock Holmes. They have to fight the man's brother in order to save the UK. Highly recommended.

Another fun little story. Although I did notice that Qwilleran is very full of himself in this book, I never noticed that before.

The first book in the Fear Street series. A fun read. I think this series will do nice as a palate cleanser between other reads.

First finish during my vacation. Next I've got two horror novels lined up, because what's a vacation without horror?

The story itself way okay, but there were quite a few typos ("she was rotted to the spot"), grammar mistakes and missing words. One character probably started as a female and was later turned into a male, but she didn't change all the instances of the name, which was confusing at first and annoying once I figured it out.

Bianca van Willigenburg (biancavw) | 1752 comments I'm still not reading much. Even books I like are slow going. I am planning on getting the new Paperwhite Signature Edition, maybe that will motivate me again. However, there is no official release date for the Netherlands yet (on the German Amazon it says November 10). So I'll just put the money aside and see when it's released.

Spacechik | 83 comments Yeah, I've seemed to slow down reading. I generally read from my phone but I've ordered a couple of 'real' books I'm starting. One is a Kim Harrison, Craig Johnson, and I need to finish the recent Jim Butcher book. Yeah, I know last years book from JB. I just couldn't get excited about a book that was several years from the last. I should just start over the Dresden series. Anyway, good luck.

Christa (christaw) | 1460 comments It's been slow for me too, slowed down more by the one book that I DNF'd at about 40%. The month started out promising reading-wise, but it just sort of fell apart after that.

HomeInMyShoes | 2759 comments Totally slow for me too. I'm just reading with the kids now. But that is super special. Other hobbies are just filling my time as well so it is all good. Lots of music and puzzles and games with the kids.

Bianca van Willigenburg (biancavw) | 1752 comments The Haunting of Leigh Harker by Darcy Coates.
The twist half way through the book was somewhat predictable, but it was an enjoyable story.

The Disappearance by Katherine Webb.
I randomly chose this book. It's set in the second world war, normally I don't like stories set during wars. But the war wasn't too overbearing and I enjoyed it.

Despite not reading much (I didn't finish anything in October, and it took me a full month to read the Darcy Coates book) I treated myself to the new Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition. And I'm loving it. I love the slightly bigger screen and the automatic adjustment of the front light and the colour temperature. I'm even reading a bit more.

Yeah, I started to figure it out before the reveal too, but I really liked it! It was at times terrifying, but also heartwarming.

This one hit the spot! I thought it was a horror, or at the very least a paranormal story. But though it has some event that might/might not be paranormal in it it's a thriller. But a creepy one. Definitely recommended!

Okay, a bit dragging.
