Books with: From real world to a fantasy land. Transferable job skills.

I am looking for books where a person travels to a fantasy land and unexpectedly flourishes, because their modern person skillset somehow proves to be easily transferable. The good example is The Dragon and the George. It's MC, Jim, is a teaching assistant and he travels to a sword-and-sorcery version of medieval England. His modern way of thinking and scientific background gives him an edge when using magic or managing lands he later acquires.

What a cool concept! Maybe this is close enough: in The Dragons of the Cuyahoga, there is a permanent portal between "the fantasy world" and Cleveland. The MC is a journalist who gets wrapped up in the semi-political murder of a dragon.

Maybe Gossamer Axe - a musician uses her newly developed talents in rock music to return to the fairy world

Perhaps the following might work:

1. Magic Kingdom for Sale/Sold by Terry Brooks? . In it the MC Ben Holiday uses a combination of his boxing skills to win in a 'fisticuffs' challenge with an unruly Baron. He is also lawyer able to help interpret and modernize the medieval kingdom's legal structure to help trade and justice.

2. Somewhat similar to the Gossamer Axe suggestion above, in Spellsinger by Alan Dean Foster the MC Jonathan Thomas Meriweather, (Jon-Tom in the fantasy realm) learns to use his ability to play guitar in a band to harness the power of a spellsinger, a mage who can use songs to cast spells.

The Soprano Sorceress by LE Modessit jr. Heroine is a professional singer and instructor, travels to a world where singing is magical and her skills and training are way above anybody else's.

Broken Crescent S. Andrew Swann. Hacker goes to world where his skills translate to magic.

Sounds like Piers Anthony's books. He likes/d to sort of straddle the sci-fi/fantasy line, which include but are not only, his Xanth series.

Though he spent the first four years of his life in England, Piers never returned to live in his country of birth after moving to Spain and immigrated to America at age six.
