Brynn What does “own voices” entail?

message 6: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Green Hicks (kelly's bookish world) Own voices refers to an author from a marginalized or under-represented group writing about their own experiences/from their own perspective, rather than someone from an outside perspective writing as a character from an underrepresented group.

Kelly Green Hicks (kelly's bookish world) Still Life by Louise Penny and In a Dark, Dark Wood by Ruth Ware are both great choices for mystery. For history, The Dollhouse by Fiona Davis and The Clan of the Cave Bear by Jean M. Auel.

Sheri Howard Hi Brynn, I found an online source that gave me some ideas for February's challenge. It's called 100 Must-Read Debut Novels. https://bookriot.com/100-must-read-de...
(although, not all of them went on to be famous authors)
