This book was basically Ready Player One without the charm, the surprise, the humor or the friendships. Does that sound good? No, no it doesn't. And remember in Ready Player One when you found all the Easter Eggs on your own ... or didn't b/c you didn't get them? Well, that doesn't happen this time because he explains all the cultural references he made.

Top that off with Ernest Cline wanting to address EVERY. CAUSE. HE'S. EVER. HAD. A. THOUGHT. ABOUT. (His heart was totally in the right place. He had a platform, and he felt he should use it, and I get it. But it was overdone, came out preachy and frankly annoying, and detracted from the story.)

There's just too much pressure in a situation like this, Cline couldn't rise to the occasion. It's too bad.

I liked this more than you- but I 100% agree with this.

Olivermagnus (lynda11282) | 4759 comments I had been looking forward to this but everyone thinks it's a dud, so it's coming off my TBR. One or two bad reviews are one thing, but I haven't read any glowing ones.
