Maybe it is the environment, or maybe a human rights issue - there is a book for that!

The Sixth Extinction: An Unnatural History - Elizabeth Kolbert
Girls on the Verge - Sharon Biggs Waller
Stamped: Racism, Antiracism, and You: A Remix... - Jason Reynolds (upper-middle grade)
Real Queer America - Samantha Allen
From the Desk of Zoe Washington - Janae Marks (middle grade)

Robynne Lozier I read the 6th extinction for UNO 2020 - my review is around here somewhere...

Need to find another good environmental book - like Erin Brockovich was. Loved that book and movie as well.

The environment is my "issue"
Will let you know what i find.

Kelly (kellylevesque) I’m looking for something on the environment or being more self sustainable.

Mio (mio_tokiwa) | 8 comments I will be reading "Reading with Patrick: A Teacher, a Student, and a Life-Changing Friendship" by Michelle Kuo because I think reading/writing can help young people to understand/express themselves. I love reading and I believe reading can help children to see that the world is big enough for every one of them to be no matter how different they feel they are. I am also curious to see how Kuo sees complexities of the South as an Asian woman since I am also one.

Amber | 22 comments I'll Be The One by Lyla Lee. Completed 14 Jan 2021.

LA teen Skye wants to show her mother that being plus-sized doesn't mean she can't follow her dreams. She enters a K-pop contest for both singing and dancing, even though she's always been told "fat girls can't dance". Along with some help from her friends, Skye learns that she has more strength and courage then she ever knew!

Ali (alithomas) | 11 comments Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver is a lovely memoir about sustainable living. I mentioned it elsewhere but I love it. ❤

message 7: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (kellylevesque) Thanks Ali! I just bought it!

message 8: by Angela (new)

Angela I'm thinking of reading one or all of the following for this reading prompt:

Climate Crisis and the Global Green New Deal by Noam Chomsky

We Rise by Xiuhtezcatl Martinez (which will be a reread because I want to go back and annotate the book for a review)

How to Be an Antiracist by Ibram X. Kendi (which I bought in 2020 but also want to go back and annotate for a review)

Brittany (brittburkard) | 66 comments I read There's No Such Thing as Bad Weather: A Scandinavian Mom's Secrets for Raising Healthy, Resilient, and Confident Kids which looks at swath of topics from parenting, childhood psychology and education and how we relate to nature/the outdoors in the United States versus Scandinavian countries.

It definitely inspired us to make it a big goal to be outside more often and was a fantastic read!

Brittany, this sounds right up my alley. Thanks for the recommendation.
